I just got all my cameras installed and run to my POE Switch as well as my
Dahua NVR5216-4KS

Now do I need to get an old monitor to hook up to the NVR to start the set up, or what are my options? I hate to go buy an old monitor just for setup, but will if I have to. Thanks guys.

I do have a PC in the same network. So in this case I can just get the ip of the NVR and login? My Dahua did not come with any instructions in the box like default ip address, username and password.

So I do not necessarly need to go out and buy a new monitor for configuration of the NVR? That would be helpful!

yes, you can install dahua config tool, you'll find nvr ip. It's really easy, i'm totally ignorant and i could do it easily.

Some basic things to set up when you first get things up and running. Times and names on each camera, time on the recorder if they don't sync, recording continuous or motion, change your default passwords and create a second account as a backdoor, encode settings and camera resolutions.

Thanks @bababouy and @AlbertoIt I will work on finding the config too this afternoon. I assume it is different than Smart Pss, which I already have installed?

If you are on an AT&T network and your LAN scheme is 192.168.1.???, You should be able to find the recorder with Smart PSS. If you are on Comcast, its a different issue

@bababouy thanks that one was a few years back.

I found the config tool. That is super cool and easy to find all your Dahua devices quickly. Now my issue is this, my DHCP address on my laptop is on the 192.168.2.1 network while the NVR is sitting on the 192.168.1.1 network and I can not get to it, and I am not seeing it on my Edge Router.

I manually changed my ip address on my laptop to 192.168.1.105, but I still can not login to the NVR. So my question is how do I go about getting logged into my NVR, and then setting the ip address to static? Thanks guys!!

@bababouy Thanks

Ok guys I was able to finally get logged into the NVR thanks to you guys help. Now I was about to change the ip address and set it to static. Now each tab that I go to it says, "Please install the chrome app" . So then I click on install, and then just get a 404 error. Any help here?

Use internet explorer. You are going to need to enable all of your active x settings. Go to tools then click on internet settings, click on the security tab, click on custom level then scroll down to active x controls and plug ins. Make sure all 13 are set to enable or prompt. Save the settings, refresh your browser, then log back into the recorder. You should have 9 or so prompts to allow, then you are in.

10/4, I thought I had read somewhere that Chrome was not supported, now that you say this. Tonight when I get home I will try Internet Explorer. However, I just looked and IE is not supported on the Mac, which is of course my laptop.

Well I had a small netbook with windows I was able to use. @bababouy the active X stuff helped out and I was able to get the plugins installed. Now I am assuming I need to add all my cameras to this NVR interface. However, I am under the setup tab and I am a bit lost on my next steps here.

This is good stuff, is there a help guide for setting up a Dahua NVR and cameras from scratch, and connecting to it remotely from a mobile, I wonder if there could be a sticky, or notes with the basics?

Agreed, I have yet to find good notes in the Cliff Notes and having trouble finding a step by step for this NVR. I am pretty close to trying to find a professional in the Houston area to finish off my setup.

Houston is the right place to solve any problem! ;-)
