My Dahua NVR sends (via ftp) videos to a remote location in dav format. I can watch them with Media Player Classic, but haven't found a way to convert them into a more user friendly format. Has anybody? Thanks.

HandBrake: Open Source Video Transcoder

Handbrake can convert DAVs, but its one at a time. There are ways to script this for batch conversion. There are also ways to get VLC to playback DAV directly, but it requires changing options kinda deep in the config and it will impact playback for other file types.

A few years back I uploaded a .dav to youtube and it worked fine. FYI only.

Following up for posterity. I built the following MacOS Finder action (using Automator) to build a new MKV container with the stream from the DAV file. Handbrake (which I mentioned previously in this thread) is a lossy re-encode. This ffmpeg passthrough option is lossless, near instantaneous, and gives you a much more compatible file.

I just exported and converted a 20 second clip last night. Handbrake works fine. Cuts file size by about 5x, too.
