Greetings all!
I recently stumbled across this forum in my searches for a 'proper' security camera setup. I've found the information in the Wiki, VPN Primer, Cliff Notes, etc. to be extremely helpful thus far. I was previously looking into one of the Lorex 4 camera kits but have since decided to go with an a la carte hardware setup with the Starlight Dahua cameras and a Dahua NVR. My primary focus is to keep an eye on my driveway and detached garage and recently ran power and ethernet out to it from the house, with the ethernet going back up into my office with the modem/router/computer/etc. are. I went and picked up 2 WD purple 4TB drives over the weekend, as well as swapped out my old router for a new Asus AC-RT86U and already have the VPN up and running and remote access properly working. I also had a BV-Tech PoE switch delivered today from Amazon. With the wires all run and much of the hardware set up I emailed Andy last evening to get an order together the cameras and NVR.
As mentioned above, the information that I've gotten from the forum thus far has been invaluable. I went from having my heart set on the Lorex system to learning a tremendous amount about the cameras from Dahua and properly setting up my network with the VPN. Looking forward to getting the cameras installed and what's to come!
