Hi all, minor problem. I have 2 file locations: the "New" folder on drive C, and the "Stored" folder on drive D. D is an external hard drive.

There are 2 clips in BI that I'm trying to move from the New folder to the Stored folder. I do this through BI, right click and select Move. These files are erroring out however - the error message says that the drive is either full or read only. All other files are moving no problem, and the drive is not full (BI still has 5ish gbs to play with).

I have rebooted. I have repaired the database. I've repaired then rebooted. I've rebooted then repaired. Help? It's messing up my process!

why in the world are you manually trying to move files?
there are many reasons why a file wont move, it may still be open, it may be labeled as protected...

As I review clips, to keep myself organized, I tell BI to move them to Stored. I have cameras because of a problem neighbor (who majorly escalated last week, so very glad I've got the property destruction on video), I review all the footage. 3 cameras x 8 hours a clip x 24/7 recording = a lot of clips.
They're not labeled protected. I suppose I could change the settings to have BI automatically move them and see if it'll work that way.

You dont need to manually move them, you can set it up automatically...and 5gb free space is nothing when clips can be that large depending on your settings...if your drive is almost full it can cause issues.

Oh, sorry! Meant 5 TB. I'm not used to TB ;) Each clip is about 14 GB (8 hours video & audio, if that sounds off, let me know and I'll find the you tube video about those settings)
Gonna change settings to have it try to move those 2 files automatically.

Will telling BI to move things in batches like I've been doing cause problems? I can figure out another system if I need to, but if it's mostly ok I'd prefer to stick to what I know.

Let Bi do it's job. Sort clips by date/day and time to view. You're over complicating it. No need to be manually moving files.

Setup motion so you can easily see when something transpired.

You guys are no fun /s. My ability to use this software is pretty limited.
Anyway, I changed settings and I think BI tried to move the files last night (2am). Tried is the key word here, they're still there. Suggestions?

Yes, its very limiting...blue iris is EXTREMELY limiting.. It pretty much allows for no customization and blocks you from doing what you NEED. I suggest you look a better vms and not mess with this crap...see avigilon...
The key word is you have your settings set incorrectly...blue iris is not capable of machine leaning your thoughts. Perhaps some of the other vms out there have that capability.

Um, that was a joke? Sorry if it wasn't clear (not sarcasm).

Yes, I'm aware that I don't know much about the software. I'm aware that I'm using a fraction of it's capabilities. I'm aware that compared to many on here I have a tiny setup. I know all this. I come here to get help when I run into a problem, since you guys DO know the software and I appreciate the assistance. I will keep my posts dry and factual to prevent any misunderstandings in future.

SouthernYankee, by rebuild database, I assume that you're referring to right clicking on the clip and selecting Database, then rebuild. I tried that yesterday, and haven't touched it since. I will leave it alone for a couple days and see what happens. thanks.

leaving it alone wont resolve improper settings...you need to post all your storage settings as well as the clips status settings found by hitting the 3 vertical bars on top.

Ok. Screen shots of many settings, probably more than you need. I have 3 cameras, they're all setup exactly the same. System has been up since Labor Day.

Two screen shots the window directories and files in the c drive new folder and d drive stored folder.

How is the external drive connected to the BI PC?

Have you tried transferring a very large file to the external drive. Sometimes external drives do not spin up and stay spinning for a large file transfer.

External drive is connected via usb3, it's in one of the ports on the back so I can't accidentally hit it. I have tried tightening it, just in case. I've had no trouble with it spinning up to transfer large files. Just not as fast as an internal (no room in the tower for an internal). Screenshots upcoming.

Update: BI has successfully moved one of the two files on it's own. It keeps trying to move the 2nd file. I assume eventually it will work.

Something is very wrong with your set up...it's a computer it doesn't need to try..
