Hi All,
Long time lurker, never had a need to post any questions as search has always come up with an answer, but this one I'm a little stumped.

I want to use a server 2016 server build and consolidate all my single purpose comps... Assuming you have hardware that supports quicksync and drivers installed has anyone actually gotten quicksync to work w/ server 2016 and blueiris ran as a service?

Various google searches seem to be mixed results, so want to see if first hand experience is available.

ok, I figured. I'll see if I can get it working first and post a solution if I can...if not, will repurpose some old hardware just for blueiris, thnx.
Its not about being able to get it to work, its about stability. Dont use old outdated hardware. Most setups can be run on a 100 dollar i5-3570 pc.

Hey @rhui_BC, welcome. I run BlueIris on Server 2016, but not as a service. Yes, you do need to have the CPU and drivers to support quick sync, but its works just fine. Just use Windows 10 drivers.

I've just finished setting up mine last night... Quick Sync on Server 2016 works great!

Gigabyte Z370P D3
Intel i5-8400
16GB RAM

Using v25.20.100.6326 (1st Oct 2018) - downloaded from Intel website, rather than motherboard's Gigabyte website. This now shows up as "Intel(R) UHD Graphic 630" rather than "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" which doesn't support Quick Sync

Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10

Thanks everyone, i actually just finished my build, been running for a month now.

Xeon E-2146G w/ P630 Intel HD GPU
16GB DDR4 ecc ram
C246 Pro Mobo
Server 2016 STD

Energy consumption is 85w at the wall with 6 hdds and 1 nvme ssd.

Version 24.20.100.6229 Intel driver (INTEL UHD Graphics (Support WS C246 PRO MB))

Quick sync is working great when blueiris 4.8.4.4 is run as a service...no need to logon as user context to make it use the drivers.
Many details are left out, but cpu use is 6-8% w/ 12 cameras. Yes, a dedicated refurb would probably do the same for much less...

my cpu isnt as nice as yours, but also on win 2016 server. i am already running 3 servers, i really wish BI would fit easier into the rest of a typical homelab system.

Oh wow 3 servers... well to be fair blueiris probably isn't targeting users like us, but the avg home user with no servers at home.

I just wanted to chime in saying that I had a problem initially getting Blue Iris to play nice with Server 2016 & Quick-Sync. Every time I switched BI to Intel hardware acceleration it would crash. I tried playing around and what I eventually found was that the Intel HD 530 video driver I was using was causing an issue. I tried a newer driver and still experienced the same so instead I dug up an older one. I was able to find a 2017 release ver 23.20.16.4877 located here: Intel HD & Iris Graphics Drivers Version 23.20.16.4877 WHQL

After rolling back Blue Iris has been running fine with Quick-Sync enabled. I was able to use GPU-Z to confirm GPU load increases / decreases with opening / closing the application. Just a tip for anyone having the same issue that's scratching their heads.
