Thanks for your reply. Do most just purchase an external hard drive and connect to the NVR?
Do you know if the NVR firmware issues have been resolved? I was not able to find a definite answer.
Sorry, i have no idea about the firmware.

Thanks again for all the help. I went ahead and ordered the 8 channel NVR, 2 - IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE at 3.6mm, 2- IPC-HDW2231R-ZS, 2 junction boxes and 2 wall mounts. Oh, and a WD purple drive for the NVR.

I will wire my system for 6-8 cameras, but am starting with 4 for now. Looking forward to getting this set up and will post pictures.

Okay, my camera system and hard drive should arrive on Friday. Here is where I am thinking of placing the 4 cameras. Please let me know if you have any advice or recommendations. For the most part, all of the cameras will be between 8-8.5' off the ground. I would appreciate any tips or advice for placement. I read the WIKI again and have tried to follow the recommendations. I have an electrician coming to run the cables. I will have him run enough lines for 6-8 cameras and leave a coil at the end of each line so I can move the sites around as needed. Thanks!

This is my front entrance. I was thinking the back corner would be the best spot. A second picture with a different perspective of the front door is below. I was planning on using a IPC-HDW2231R-ZS here.

The soffit would be easiest for running the Cat5E. Please let me know which location would be best. I am open to suggestions and feedback.

I was thinking of having a camera to look over the front of the house and driveway. I will only have one camera for the garage, would it be best to go with the side opposite of the front door since it will already have coverage? I am open to suggestions here. Planning on using a IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE 3.6mm here.

This is the side which is opposite of the garage. I would like to have a camera in the rear corner, aimed at the side gate from the front to backyard. It will be 8-8.5' off the ground. Planning on using a IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE 3.6mm here.

Another shot from near the gate. I will need to keep the shrubs lower to avoid blocking the camera.

This is the back entrance to my house. Mounting it to the soffit would be right about 8-8.5'. I am planning on putting a IPC-HDW2231R-ZS here as well.

@looney2ns @TonyR Pics added..If anyone has any feedback I would greatly appreciate it. The electrician will be coming this afternoon and I want to make sure my plans will work. The cameras are coming after so I am not able to test before wires are pulled. Thanks!
