Folks. Asking a lot of questions lately. Owned NVR 4816-16p for 2 years and lately found the interest of getting deeper into the hobby, replacing cameras etc.

Never have been able to get emails from the NVR. Followed dahuawiki info to the letter last night and test email won’t go thru. FYI, I have latest FW and it appears instructions were on prior firmware. Looked thru archives, YouTube etc. Not being lazy, really need help to make this work.

So bring us up to speed: what did you fill in the fields ? Did the "test-email" setting work? Do you have a firewall on your network somewhere? "Block Internet Access" for the NVR? Do you use vlans?

All good questions for now :)

I send emails to gmail with pictures from the NVR (NVR5216-4KS2). Although it does not work very robustly - sometimes the emails do not have pictures attached. I've found it handy to setup a filter so that the emails get deleted on arrival. If I want the check something they are stored for 30 days in gmail Trash. I also made cameras send the emails individually - this is also a bit unreliable. Check your Encryption Type and Port. Gmail on one port supports two encryption types and on the other port one encryption type, or something like this. Search gmail documentation for that, or just copy my settings. Also in your gmail account you may need to enable "access to less secure apps" somewhere (link).

Thanks buddy. I have a new NVR. The same as yours only Poe. Haven’t hooked it up yet. Waiting on a couple 4K cameras. Then I will try your settings. Thank you.

Another piece of advice: don't use your normal gmail account, but open a new one specially for the task. This way you are not going to compromise security by giving your password to a chinese company, that no-one knows what is capable for. You can set up forwarding to your normal account if you want to see the alerts there as well.
