Hi! My name is Fred and my house was broken into last Friday. So now I want to install cameras to cover my yard so if they or someone else try to break in again, I have a good picture of them to give the cops. I'm also going to be adding window and door switches to an alarm system.
I went to IPVM Camera Calculator V3 and based on what I saw, ya, I know nothing. Nothing!

Thank you for your future support!

Fred

Thanks @NoneYa44! I've been in the computer industry for 30+ years and I'm also into photography so I have a little better knowledge working for me. I'll check out those systems

Do you have an alarm system? If not, consider getting one. I've been happy with Simplisafe, easy to install, no contract, but there are many others to choose from. Get several sirens to increase the chance that an intruder will leave immediately without entering when he hears them blaring.

It is not uncommon for burglars to wait until you've had a few weeks to replace your stolen items, then hit you again for a double score.

Ring has the best pricing by far for a monitored system. 100 dollars for the year. That includes cellular backup.

@NoneYa44. I did download the Cliff Notes. Wow. I'm a member of a lot of forums and this document has a lot of info that other forums don't. I'll have to print it out.
@JDJ I hope they don't come back but you're right, I'm a known target now.
@fenderman Thanks, I'm certainly going to need a security system. I'll take a look at your recommendation
Note that costco sells the kit same kit but with 6 window/door sensors for 240, I think i saw it in store...go buy it...if you dont like it in a few months you can return it. You need something now. This will take you less than an hour to setup. Costco Wholesale
Bestbuy has various versions of the kit as well https://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/ring-alarm

@NoneYa44 PRETTY!!! Unfortunately I live in the People's Republic of Massachusetts and anything with a barrel shroud is considered an assault weapon and banned here. It scares Maura Healey But I don't want to even give her power by talking about her. I believe in the Second Amendment completely.
@JDJ Ya freaked me out with the second infiltration story so I went to Home Depot and got the next level system
@fenderman I also bought 6 additional contact sensors for every window at ground level.
The CCTV system is going to have ot wait a bit. I do have 2 Tend Lynx 2 indoor cameras and one Lynx Pro camera set up inside pointing at the doors and down the hallway. Funny story, I decided to take a look at my recordings and discovered that the hallway camera does indeed capture motion in low light. I know because I underdress in my bedroom then walk to the bath to get in the shower. :wow::wow::wow: Yup, there's my ass, in all it's glory! DELETE! :ohsnap:

The nice thing about ring alarm is that the accessories are very reasonably priced. Keypads, pir, additional sirens etc...
These might be of interest to you

Excellent. I was looking at the Ring Security System today and it looks awesome.

In my house there is a siren near every door or window. A blaring alarm maximizes the odds that a burglar will run, so extra sirens are always a good idea.

Since you are waiting on your camera system, you might want to get a few of these as a deterrent in the meantime:

https://www.amazon.com/Swann-PRO-T845-Imitation-Security-SWPRO-T845DUM-US/dp/B01K7MWCTC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1541736474&sr=8-5&keywords=swann+dummy+security+camera

I like these dummy cameras because they are made by Swann and are identical in appearance to the real thing. Some dummy cameras can be less than convincing. But with the Swann dummies, they are literally the same camera without the electronics, and they are only $9.99.

I have had two first-hand experiences with cameras deterring criminals. In both cases, they immediately left when they saw the camera. Without seeing it myself, I wouldn't have thought cameras would instill quite that much fear. But I guess it's a powerful thing when they realize their face was captured, so dummy cams have a helluva lot of bang for the buck.

With the Ring Security sign visible from the street, and a few easily seen security cameras, typical burglars will be much more likely to avoid breaking in. The last thing they want is to go to jail, and they know that the guy down the street doesn't have a security system or cameras.

Oh my God, a siren? Yeah I’m getting at least one of them for sure! I’ve already set my ring security system off twice so far! still figuring it out. Last tine I set it off I ended up pulling the battery out of the base unit to shut it up. I’m trying to recover from that fun time. And I have a contact sensor stuck in “tampered” I’m trying to fix. The instructions to reset the sensor is inconsistent across the app, the manual and the on line help. You have to remove the battery, Then press and hold the tamper switch. Then insert the battery and wait for the blue LED to stop flashing before you release the button. Then put the cover back on.
I’m really sorry you had such a bad experience in Massachusetts.

And actually a second and third siren would be awesome because I’m thinking about putting the base station downstairs. I live in a split entry and the first floor is where entry is possible through the windows (ground level), then the front door, then the rear porch door.

I don't understand why you would have to pull it battery out of the base unit... You can shut the alarm off of the keypad or the mobile app...
