I have a Dahua NVR 4208-8P-4KS2 with two hdd wd purple 4tb (8tb total) and 7 cameras 4mp. I set 2 cameras on continous recording for 6 hours/day the rest of the day and other 5 cameras record only according trimpwire rules (all 25fps at maximum resolution and h265 compression). Is it normal that it keeps only 14 days of recording?
If i set all cameras 24hrs continous recording it keeps 5 days more or less. The strange thing is that if i go to one of those online hard disk space calculator it says that with 7 cameras and 24h continous recording i should have about one month recording...Any idea?

the resolution is irrelevant...its the bitrate that affects duration.

thanks, but does bitrate setting affect the recording quality? do you think i could try to reduce the bitrate?

Yes it will to an extent...it depends on your current settings..you could be wasting space...lower your frame rates to 15, 25 is a waste and lower your bitrate by half and see what happens.

Ok, i will try. May i ask you what is the purpose of substream recording?

I lowered the bitrate to 2000 kb/s and the fps to 20 but recording duration is still too short in my opinion. Only 17 days recording for 7 cameras that are recording according ivs rules (that means less than 10%) is not possible...

How do you know you can only record 17 days? It’s been only 5 days since you said you will change settings. 4MP cameras recording high quality at 15fps should have a max bitrate of 4096kbs using H265. So doing the math and converting bits to bytes you should only use 310GB per day. I am assuming your substream is set to 1024kbps (actually kind of high if also H265) which will use another 77GB per day. So 8TB of HDD space should give you around 20 days of recording.

You sure both HDD are working?

I didn't set continous recording but only IVS (it's recording less than 10% of time now) and I've noticed that it gives me some more days but not as many as they should be.It seems like it's using much more disk space than normal.
How could i check the disks without taking them off the NVR? I enclose some screenshots of the NVR menu and one of a camera menu (the other 6 are the same).

I was looking into a camera menu (first screenshot above) and i noticed those "smart codec" and "I Frame interval" which are not in any NVR menu, the first is set OFF the second 40, are they ok?

...and this is the average daily recording time of my cameras (the others 3 are similar).

I have tried to put my previous settings in a hdd calculator and even with h264 compression (i have h265) and continous recording it says that i should have 25 recording days...and i have just 18 days with trimpwire recording only. I tried to check the hdd with "detect" (only the quick one for the moment) and results seem ok. I don't have any idea where is the problem...maybe a problem with hdd that the nvr cannot detect? how could i check it ?

I've noticed that in Storage-Schedule-Snapshot menù continuous recording 7/7 (green bar for each day of the week) is set. That could be wasting hdd's space?
