The camera in question is a 4 mp Starlight / EXIR DS-2CD3346DWD-I. It's a turret. I'm showing a photo of the main board inside the camera.

This is obviously a China-only camera. I can find no listing on the Hikvision english website for this camera (out of curiousity - is this camera offered for US/international sale? If so, what model number do they give it?). The camera web-GUI is Chinese-only.

The camera came with V5.5.12 firmware. I downloaded a 141-mb file from Hikvision called "DS-2CD3xx1, 3xx5, 3xx6, 3xx7 series network camera upgrade package". It contains a set of files (digicap.dav) for each of the 4 listed camera lines. The firmware versions contained in the archive are: 5.4.41, 5.5.53, 5.5.61. The files have names like IPC_E0_CN_STD_5.4.41_170804.zip. The 2-character code after "IPC" is different between files. I have no idea how this code correlates to the camera series (3xx5, 3xx6, etc). There's a pdf file that came with the archive - I'll have to get this translated before I know if it answers this question.

A few questions:

- The first "D" in the "DWD" part of the model number seems to denote a camera option. Perhaps the -I at the end does also. What options do they denote?

- The camera came with V5.5.12 firmware. Assuming I could get the camera to take the 5.4.41 firmware, would that get me anywhere in terms of getting English on this camera?

- Can the camera be used "as-is" - in china-language mode, with a Hikvision (english) DVR? Or will there be a language conflict? Or will it work in Onvif mode regardless the language?

- The board photo shows 3 connectors. The Red connector is where the network and power cable gets connected. The green and yellow have no cable. I presume the green is a TTL-level serial port? or Jtag? If it's a serial port, can I do anything useful with it? What's the yellow connector for? Seems to be dual-row 8 contacts

normally if your camera matches the pattern and is in the same family (e.g. ip camera, speed dome, etc.), e.g. the xx is a wildcard, then yes, the firmware can be used. the suffix is a feature set the camera comes with.

however, you cannot flash english firmware on a chinese camera. at best the flash won't work, at worst you'll brick the camera
