I believe I have collected up enough to get started and lay some pipe. Below is a sketch of My current configuration. I'm not finished with the next generation, will post when ready Mike/EZ

Please provide a list of manufactures, part numbers and purpose of the equipment. I am having a hard time reading some of the item on the drawing. Put it is a good start.

I would go with a POE switch to drive the cameras. Something like GS305P or bigger you will always add more cameras.
what is the purpose on the Lenovo laptop ? Do not use a laptop for BlueIris. Get a good used desktop or tower off of EBAY.

I run Blue Iris for the camera's, SDR Console for the radios, listen to pandora, and surf the net with the Lenovo, but all at once well I am at it limits for sure.
I'm up for a configuration change
AC-68U is becoming a AC-88U
Lenovo is getting swapped out
The NAS is getting upgraded
The switch is going to turn into a 16 port w 8 POE managed switch
The camera list is going to grow
Weather station to be added output going to the Yaesu VX-8 to be transmitted via APRS (Automatic position Reporting System) everything is powered by 12v and can installed in most any vehicle for mobile applications..

The cable tester showed up today, but the crimpers and RJ45 ends did not. I wanted to make some jumper cables and get some repeatable crimps with a new tool.
On a side note the wife asked how much the budget was for this build. She checked My car fund and saw it was tapped out, so I scuffed My feet and told Her My next car... She reminded Me the next one was going to be Hers, now I really fell bad. So I grabbed My hat and went to put some of My money in the car account. Well She beat Me to it and had already made a deposit, so I matched Her.
All Good In Wifeland, Andy has a big smile , and I'll be having visions of camera views runnin round My brain tonight. Mike/EZ

I spent most of yesterday upgrading My Control station. Doubled the ram, fresh install of win10 pro on a 970 EVO /256g ssd, and a 2t SSHD for storage. I wish I had pulled the trigger on this upgrade sooner, it's a night and day difference. 1st count 14 sec from pwr on to windows logon, logon to desktop less than 2 sec. Network addressing is next. My Asus routers have a address of 192.168.1.1, the tp-link managed switch is 192.168.0.1, and the gateway is 10.---.1.1. Xfinity sets the gateway so no worries there. I guess My choises are 3 separate networks linked, or re address the managed switch an make 1 net managed by the control station. I see 3 nets being more secure harder to connect, and 1 net less secure but ezer to connect. Networking is one of My short suits, so I'm looking for validation I'm headed in the right direction, or just space trippin? Mike/EZ

I did it again (of corse I always do). The OCD in Me took over, and the project has begun. With a pile of boxes by My side I began to rip and tear like it was Christmas. After My head stopped spinning from visions of the possibility's that lay before Me, I picked up and stacked everything by subassembly. I was able to assemble a weather station, a 16T Nas, a 8T external drive, connect up the POE switch with 1 camera, and finish My Laptop upgrade with only a few anomalies. Now that I type it out, I see I was bustin sum butt. Life is good when Your haven fun, an mama ain't callin :). The weather had issues, and tech support went thru his book then sent Me a new unit. I asked if he was sending a return label and He said no keep it for spares. Sweet...
The Nas and external were successful, but unfortunately issues reared their ugly heads. All the hardware is working, no conflicts. I'm sure something became corrupt during the clone, but what. I don't want to reinstall that would add days of extra work, so I downloaded the necessary files, and emailed them to My buddy for examination. I'm sure it's a driver issue it usually is. Oh he77 mama's callin LOL (dinner mmmmmm) See Ya Mike/EZ

I benchmarked My Laptop and internet this morning, and all seems good. In fact it is the highest one yet (yes I run it 3 times then average). Internet speeds varied from a low of 40m to 947m, but it was pretty close as far as site to site. Of- corse Comcast clocked Me the fastest. My ping was very stable 14ms to 20ms, again each site was constant, All sites were in the same city San Francisco CA apx 280 mi away.

Bummer I have files, missing and or corrupted. So I moved on and made network cables. I ordered cat6 ends and they sent cat5e, but I muddled through anyway. At this point I have 6 cams up and running, 3 of which are mounted, then it began raining. Dang it. I feel like a rabbit jumping from ho to ho LOL. I moved indoor and installed the new washer/dryer. That makes it Union Lunch.... Oh yea I have a question on addressing. Hardware connections are as follows.
xfinity gateway (10.1.10.1) to AC-88U, 88U (192.168.1.1) to computer (192.168.1.***), and to tp-link 16 port switch(192.168.1.***) . TP-link switch to all cameras (192.168.1.***). The switch says that the computer address is the default gateway. Shouldn't it be the 88U router be the gateway or should I use the xfinity address?? Mike/EZ

After going thru My addressing (all clients), and I only found 1 error. Of-corse it is the switch go figure. I used the set up wizard to get it up and running and make a copy of default settings, and it got Me there, but too the long way home. I was thinking I had a latency issue with the switch (darn near 1.5s from target movement to screen movement. Being routed thu most every client in the nod. well lests just say I would not want that wizard driving My Atno Cab.. :)
I even got a hit on the front entry. I looked up and saw what appeared to be Mom falling in the walkway (this happened last year same time to). So I bolt from My office moving as fast as I can, and Find Mom picking weeds in the rain. Be still My Heart,,, She, mentioned how the cameras were blessing, then started asking $$$. I replied I'm in charge of Safety and security, let Me worry about that, helped Her up, wiped Her off, and gage Her a hug. Now She ia wandering thru the house singing Christmas songs (83yrs old) Mike/EZ

Was that last post Me or spell check, either way I hope You all understood it cuz I had to reread it a few times Myself. LOL
I've been on IT and computer stuff since My last post, and I have more to do now than when I started. How's that happen??? The answer is Word Of Mouth, and good Friends. Everyone that stopped by for the last few days, to check out what I'm up to either dropped off something that needed fixing, or they referred someone that needed help. Don't get Me wrong, I keep telling them to come on down, and Mikie needs to keep busy. It's just I sat around for a while with nothing to do so I started this project, and now I'm swamped. This is a good thing for sure, but that is always the way it happens (feast or famine) …
I did have time to tear down the entire network, re-cable from the gateway thru the routers and switches to the computers. Ill update with a diag. after testing and varication all is operational. Mike/EZ

I got a Fish in the Boat My first day, and The local LEO's helped Me with some real world movement around the property (Now I know what I can and cannot see no guessing).....
Prelog: My wife Cathy is a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor, and giving any stress situation will not remember or be able to do anything, so I have protocol in place that if the alarm triggers and Cathy is the person that answers the phone, She will only remember the answer to 1 question. She will not have the ability to do anything, or remember much if any. So, after alarm central verifies it's Cathy on the phone, and Mom or I can not be contacted the police are still to be called to the house. This is also in a response file Our Local LEO's keep. The good, all went as desired. The Bad, Cathy is all freaked out, and I only captured 1 camera view of the front porch. The other two cameras are targeted in My office (That is where I'm storing all the hardware). The clip is 6 hrs long so I need to chop the good stuff out, and then I will share.
TimeLine
12:18:53 Mom and I head out for an afternoon of BBQ and good friends (Cathy doesn't do well in large settings, so She stayed home. other family members went somewhere for the afternoon, cuz the House was to be locked until our return)
2:46:17 My Dog rounds the garage (had to come out the side gate) and straight to the front door and back out of sight
3:00:20 Police Arrive, and are in a active intruder posture
3:06:34 Police call Cathy out, for ID as a protected party
3:18:37 The last sign of police on seen (there were police on site that never came into camera view, I better cover that zone for sure) LOL
3:38:17 Shane appears in the same manner as My Dog, and heads directly into the front entrance
3:38:39 Shane is leaving, He was in the house 22sec ( when you see the clip don't forget, pay attention to the backpack as he goes in then out)
I did not have a watch: I have a feeling this scenario has just played out, I told My buddy sitting next to Me about it, also that Cathy would never be able to remember what landline number to use, and there is not any cell service. I then called Cathy to check in. She is in total survival/panic mode, so Mom and I get the goodbye tour started and head home.
5:07:35 Mom and I arrive Home Cathy still in a panic. Shane Who knows where or what he is up to.
Prolog: I called the local Leo's to thank them and let them know why We did not respond to alarm central. They recapacitated, by thanking Me for Having the info on file they needed, for a positive resolution to the event.
I will hold off on My questions until You 'all can review the event.

So many interruptions and distractions. I am at a total work stoppage today. The village is up in arms, and I see torches headed up the hill. Even though there is nothing incriminating on this first clip, there seem to be some very harsh comments. For the moment I need to hold My cards close. People suck .
New page
My cameras arrived from Andy, most of the hardware is here, and most of the network is mocked-up on the bench. I seem to keep having a addressing issues, and I feel there is something I'm missing. After lunch I hope to have a interconnect diagram to share Mike/EZ

I am feed up with the have-nots trying to rule by intimidation, so I tossed the Dictator card, and declared Marshal Law... Bottom line the have-nots want the have's to break out with the cash and support them in a time of need. I said what more do you want? We are providing Room, board, Cloths, and pocket money already. Well to say the least I went off and nobody likes me any more, yet they had the balls to ask for xmass money. So I pulled up the drawbridge (locked My office door) and still haven't answered the door . This came to a head, after I said I was going to post the video clip. They screamed privacy issues and none of their faces are in it WTF. So I ended the whole thing told them I was not asking permission, I was telling them what I'm going to do....
I made good use of the day by building Myself a new workstation. I am now sitting at the controls of a 3 computer workstation, the only place they come together is at the gateway. I'm updating the 3rd terminal as we speak. and I have a fourth unit planed. This one will be a custom build with 2 fully functional motherboards in one case with separate coolers, input and output HID's. Oh Yea I have 2 more cameras online last night. I'll be loading software today so I should be able to edit video by tomorrow (as I cross My fingers) LOL. My buddy came by yesterday and He said I looked like the wizard of OZ behind the curtain I just smiled. Then He asked why, My answer was I'm board and I can!!! Isn't America Great :). Mike/EZ

Let Me began with a heartfelt My Bad and Thank you . If You all remember I was having trouble with the have nots in the family, after the camp fire in paradise CA. Well the HN's convinced My Mom I was the problem, and they wanted to report me to the police. My Mom came to Me saying if I didn't like it leave. A few days later I went out to pick up dinner and didn't return. In fact I wouldn't have returned except for a broken hip. After 3 weeks in the hospital I returned home to find My home/ office were total devastation and My cat was not much better. I later heard one of the HN's saying I was going to know what it was to start over with nothing, so I called the insurance co and filed a clam, began rebuilding My world (don't worry I put what I valued into storage before I left). The MB is for not saying good bye and disappearing into the wind. The TY is to every person that helped make this a top notch professional resource. with the help of IPCamTalk and it's resources I was able to bench build My camera system and get BlueIris in a stable condition within the 15 day trial period. I know this is the point where you scold Me on how My passwords and key codes should be kept in a safe place I tried but it didn't happen did it. I finely found the original email from foscam with the BI4 key. That puts me up and running stable with 6 cameras., with all My stats are incredibly low. My hat off to all TYVM.... Now comes the point where I will be vulnerable, tear down the bench and reinstall on the property without any damage (accidental or not). At this point I have camera watching camera surrounding My home/office, So I'm going to leave it in place until all the infrastructure is in place. that will help two fold my place is covered and camera install should be plug and play. I've been diong it on the bench so it has become a ez task to perform ( I unplug a camera from one positron to another and all stays the same except the view Ez Pz) . I still am having difficulty finding my BI5 key and upgrading the BI4 key, But I still call it a success. Heck it took me over a year to get the config. even close the first time. This round in less than 15 days BI is working better than ever expected. Again Thanks mIKE/ez

I guess pulling cable is out due to That brings updating the network to the top of the to do list. That brings up a qu8estion, I have 3 cameras on a pole and they are a fair piece out there (over 50') I don't want use 150' of cable to 1 spot. So which would be best use a small 4 port switch or use a second Asus router extending my net at the same time, or is there going to be a conflict My thought is with the computer, the second router w/ the camera pole connected , and the other cameras connected to the smart switch and the S switch connected to the gateway router, the other clients on the net will connect to the gateway also this way I can unhook the cameras from the the network by pulling 1 cable> does this sound doable or am i smokin the good stuff?
Ps: I you all want to hear about the great time I had running away from home, jus say so and I will share. Otherwise I'll leave it at I had a well needed vacation except for the broken hip LOL

Hi @Armysurplus, I hope you are fine!

Do you have power on that pole? Then you might try to hook up a the "smallest" switch there is, powerfeed your 3 cams on the pole itself and install a "powerline" adapter, which transfers ethernet packets across any power cable into your house. Not fully reliable as UTP, however it is a better option than wifi and it does not require any digging in your garden.

If you don't have power either on that pole, you are obliged to either bring it in through the UTP (Poe) cable, which requires 3 cables (one for every cam) -OR- you dig in 1 power cable and 1 UTP. By doing the latter, you can install the "smallest" switch there is, feed that switch by the power, and if that switch carries PoE (eg US8-60W: Ubiquiti - UniFi® Switch 8), you feed your cams directly from that switch.

But if you are already in the process of pulling the UTP, I would advice deploy an empty conduct pipe with a pulling wire (you never know the UTP dies).

Good luck!

My camera pole is battery/solar/shore powered, and can be connected either hardwired or wireless.
After reading up on AiMesh and then a brief chat with My Elmer (My Ham radio adviser) You are correct the small switch at the pole, then the second router can be hardwired in AiMesh mode, providing wired and wireless in the Man Cave (only wireless now). With BI4 working well for close to 100hrs, I have 2 issues i haven't resolved. They are no BI5 key and when I log on as a user the BI start screen comes up then nothing. I see in TM BI4 is running yet no console. I assume I have the permissions incorrect for user. I came across this issue setting up The computers for this upgrade (hell its's not an upgrade anymore this has turned into a completely new build LOL I set the permissions so tight I could not do jack without inputting the admin pin. I've been setting up each client with the same admin profile both local and online, then 1 user profile, with My laptop being the only client that has all profiles I also created different pins and picture logon's for each client. I am beginning to feel like the man behind the curtain you are supposed to ignore :).
Oh I hit pay dirt hidden in my laptop, most of my lost files (music, photos, ect.) There I found the clip everyone cried privacy issues. After reviewing it carefully there are no issues, So now I need to figure out how to post it. AMF (Adios My Friends) Mike/Ez

Don't use traditional WiFi. It's not secure and will choke with that kind of camera load, more than likely. Ask you Elmer if he's ever heard of Ubuiquity Nano Station Loco M5. It's a dedicated, encrypted, RF link that'll go up to at least a few kilometres and handle a half dozen cameras without breaking a sweat. Far more reliable and far more secure than WiFi. It takes two units to work, one at each end. Think of it as a CAT5 cable without the cable.

Well I'm up to 9 cameras, using 25% cpu and just over 4g memory. So far the only complaint is timing (i think). I see the dog come out the door and it looks like you are fast forwarding then it slows to normal, also i can go in and out and all you see is a blip. Like it is jumping past dead air. If I wasn't recording 24/7 id miss stuff. Now I am mixing legacy and newer stuff (anything that will connect LOL) lowest frame rate is a web cam @10fps highest is 30fps. I can live with a little lag, but I sure would like the approaches as close to real time as possible ( I can get in before you see me "Opps to late") I believe I see how someone can get by the cameras :-(. example: The front entrance has two cameras looking at each other, and when the auto light comes on or off there is enough blackout time for someone to enter. nothing is prefect so when this happens I have a PTZ camera turn towards that zone. My network has turned out totally different than planed , but it is much cleaner of a install. Thanks All Mikle/EZ

I had to come up for air and some sun. I've been locked in for hell I don't remember how long, anyway good/bad news? I'm going to go with the bad first, I found a single point of failure, but only one. The good I have audio and video systems up and running (must be running good I'm sitting here rockin to AC/DC lookin at the world LOL Hell Im in a good mood today I think I'll lock the door before some spoils it. There is enough insurance money to include My RF also. I like to find a use or need for my projects, so My idea is a interoperability Repeater for My Ham radio community. That is a big a$$ word isn't it. I'll try to give you the readers digest ver. In the past if one agency wanted to talk to another you had to pick up a phone and call every agency you needed to reach. With this radio repeater each agency gives up 1 channel and 1 transmitter. with digital calling you can go in with any channel and the go out any or all, call 1 agency or several up to all. Of corse the govt goes all in so it id digital with encryption (civ model no encryption Bummer) So I have a working model here but it is very low power and it cant leave the station until it is licensed, but the concept works as a multi crossband repeater. After the unit is working and licensable We will donate it to the local Ham community (that way it gets a place on the highest mountain around (that is on a military base and the club is on the base) whew that was a mouth full. It's purpose is during need you can link all civ RF repeaters together no matter what band it is in. up until Software Defined Radio SDR it was very difficult to link more than two bands (there are 7 major bands for RF) Anyway it works for big brother why not us. An example of what it can do : Here in my valley I could only hear what was here in the valley (except for (High Freq ) now that the system is up in the county I hear everything in the county police fire even the trash. during a emergency this goes all the way to the top (the fed's) This is a remarkable system. The nations radio systems were long out dated and manufactures were telling everyone had to spend billions on rebuilding and each of these repeaters only cost 100k ( We needed 3 in this county Big brother I work for put in to many to list lets say LOL. Jus FYI If any of You all are in need of a resolution for your local area RF needs this is the way to go. With the govt digitizing all radios can talk to each other. Otherwise each manufacture has their own digitizing and of corse none are compatible. And I said Readers digest ver. NOT LOL Now I just need to keep the gremlins out and Life is good Mike/EZ
PS Im in a great mood so I hope You all understood Me No Im not drunk typin just something I get excited about.
