This from a couple of weeks ago captured on an old indoor ACTi cam looking out through a screened window. The police caught the kid this week and he apparently confessed to several other incidents. This cam has served me well but the view out the window wasn't ideal and it doesn't have IR for night. I have since replaced it with a HIKVision 4 MP outdoor dome that has a clearer picture and pretty good IR performance.

That "new daytime view" is MUCH better especially when it comes to mounting height and orientation: a much better chance of facial recognition.

Another cam, located on far side of that door at top of porch covering steps with considerations for that post lamp would be icing on the cake.

New cam is set at 2MP for now and the native view not processed through BI is even sharper. But this is pretty darned good.

I am actually going to install one of those lame Ring cams that will provide a direct porch view, but mostly because with all the advertising and such even your common porch pirate probably knows about them and looks out for them... so even if it doesn't work all that great it might at least serve as a deterrent and send them along to the neighbors. Too bad they don't open it up to Blue Iris.

Hi Raylo,

You just need one of these at about eye level by the front door...

Dahua 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera (SD49225T-HN)

Looks like a nice cam and I'd like to play with a PTZ, but I really don't need a PTZ.

Today my cam caught all the action out on the doorstep. UPS guy left a delivery for me and another apparently next door. Then a little later I see my neighbor walk over with a box, leave it on my stoop, and pick up the 2 envelopes the UPS man had left me. The eeeejit had delivered the packages to the wrong houses.

I thought about trying that a long time ago with a cheap cam on my light post, but in my case it wouldn't be ideal because it is close to the road and cars/headlights. It might work if it was aimed back at the house. Catch 'em leaving instead of coming.

This cam looks good and I like that you put it nice and low. As much as I don't want to admit it, the Ring doorbells have become a deterrent. When I walk the doggies around the neighborhood, I always stay away from the houses with the ring's.

I did get a Ring... the "Pro" model because it was narrow enough to fit on my front door trim. Compared to the typical ip cam install and setup was exceedingly simple. The only network task was to enter the security key to join the wifi network. Physical install was a snap, too... connect to the doorbell power supply and a couple of wood screws. I used one of the included angled mounting plates to adjust the view. It is totally idiot proof.

I found the bare bones motion detection to be usable only on the very least sensitive setting, otherwise constant falses. On the lowest setting it seems to only get actual people on the stoop, which is all I need from it. Longer range motion detect might do better depending on particulars of an install location and what typically goes on in front of it. It does have a way to define a motion zone but nothing more sophisticated. Picture is very clear, but very wide angle. The app works well as does the audio, not that I plan to use that. The delivery guys seem to know about these... the UPS guy didn't ring the door bell but said "here you go" when he delivered my package. Heard that on the recorded clip after receiving the alert. I wouldn't have this as my only cam but believe it will have some deterrent effect.

That's good news, as I prefer they did NOT ring the doorbell. With 4 Chihuahuas (2 pure + 2 rescue mixes) we know before they get out of the truck!
Yes, the K9 Alarm System is very functional and hair-triggered! :lmao:

Now if I, like another recent post, could just get amazon to put boxed, pricey items in a #$%@ box with air-paks instead of in a padded envelope so the item wouldn't look like Rosie O'Donnell sat on it, I'd be a happy camper.

We have one of those, too, but the Jack Russell variety. He is getting older so isn't quite the hair trigger he used to be. Yup, Amazon going more and more to their own shipping... on the cheap like everything else they do. I wonder how UPS and FedEx will adapt?

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if USPS sell out to Amazon one day and it becomes APS. Have any of you noticed USPS postage truck zipping up and down your neighborhood during late evening hours like after 8pm and all days Saturday plus Sunday too? Those USPS employees were assigned to only deliver Amazon packages at different hours and weekend including Sundays.

I always get my mails between 1:30pm tp 2pm and often after getting my mails and they would come back at night time to deliver stuffs that I ordered from Amazon. And I get my Amazon packages on Sundays from USPS when I ordered it on previous Friday being a prime members that promise me two days shipping.

it's been a looonnngggg time since UPS, Fedex, USPS has rang our doorbell unless a signature is required.
they are pushed for every second efficiency.
Bi Iris Push alerts now serve as our automatic doorbell, via phones and tablet.

Here, I see them delivering packages at 6:30am, any day of the week.

Yeah, I'm sorta peeved (as usual) at the USPS. I've had TWO packages 2 day priority mail by amazon, and both of them took 7 days from mailing to deliver.
I mean, com'on, one was shipped from just outside Cincinnati, Oh, it's trek took it to Lebanon, KY, then two days later, it went to Memphis, TN, it sat in Memphis for 2 days. By this time, Amazon had declared it lost. It showed up today. At the same time, an order was shipped from Reno, NV, by the same method, and it arrived in the promised two days.

If this excerpt from Politico is factual:

"....Amazon, like other bulk users of the Postal Service, negotiates a special shipping rate that is not publicly disclosed. Though Amazon would pay below the standard rate, by law, those negotiated arrangements must cover the cost of shipping the packages — meaning the post office cannot lose money on them..."

...then why is the USPS in the red by 63 billion dollars? Is it safe to say that if not for their "excellent financial management and economic bargaining skills" that the figure would be closer to 100 billion ? :wtf:

Looney,

Which model camera captured these videos and if fixed, which lens (3.6, 4 mm) ? Looks pretty smooth so 30 FPS ?

Thx
