Yep, those tailgates are worth some bucks to midnight auto parts dealers.
It's worth $30 to slow the turds down somewhat with this.

Have I ever mentioned how much I detest thieves?

My father once borrow my truck to haul some dirt for his garden and landscaping project around his house. I warned him to make sure to lock the tailgate since he was leaving it in his driveway overnight. He forgot to lock it and the next morning the tailgate was gone.

My parent live in a upper class HOA controlled neighborhood area and I would tease my father often after this happened by saying "You live in a bad neighborhood area since something like this happens so quickly". Five other trucks in the same neighborhood area had their tailgate stolen too.

It was a blessing in disguise anyway because insurance paid me close to 700 to replace it and I found one on Craigslist for 200 in a farming community about 200 miles away which was in the same color as my truck. It only cost me 20 dollar to rekey the lock so my truck key would work on it. Before you say anything more, the tailgate was taken off of a truck that was being replaced with pass-thur tailgate to use with 5th wheel trailers so no it wasn't my stolen tailgate being resold to me or a "hot-one" stolen from another person's truck.

I wish i had a video of the crew in a mall parking lot stealing a spare tire off of a pickup truck. The whole theft took less than 10 seconds. A truck pulls up. two guys jump out. One with a bolt cutter, he cuts the cable holding the tire, the other guy grabs the tire and their gone.

I did not realize the stealing tailgates off of pickup trucks were that big of a problem. I just noticed it on our Nexdoor.com website and people were mentioning it and now this thread.

Oh, yeah....a legitimate replacement (not stolen) runs between $500 & $700, so it's an easy sell. And tailgates have been a hot target for some time now.
Easy steal...easy sell. What more could a low-life, scum-sucking thief ask for. :poop:

Did I mention I hate thieves? :banghead:

Yes, they are too easy to steal, and a very hot item. My friend just had his stolen off a F350 Platinum while in Miami. He said it was over $5K from Ford dealer for replacement. Glad my 2017 has auto lock tailgate when you lock the doors. Tony, the gate keeper bracket looks like a good idea.

OUCH! Dang, my first NEW car, a '69 Ford Torino 428 CobraJet was only $3,368 out the door...of course, min. wage was $1.25 and gas was $.24 a gallon then, too. I was making $3.30 an hour working in a Carling Black Label brewery south of Atlanta right before I got called to active duty.

I guess the formula is the same for then and now: you work about 1,000 hours for a new car!

Yes, it does, especially if you have no tailgate lock. Having the tailgate locked can solve several issues....like having those tail lights stolen, too.
This company make many items other than the "Gate Keeper", as the turds steal batteries, tailgates, license plates, tail lights, pry and punch door locks, etc.

If I still had my '08 F-250 Super Duty (sold it & 28' trailer in 2016), I think I'd get the McGard lock here.

Me neither. It's the first time I'm hearing about tailgate thefts. It seems no matter what you have, some low-life thief is planning to steal it!

I’ve had 2 5th wheel tailgates and 1 GMC tailgate stolen while we were in our 5th wheel while sleeping. I even used wire to slow them down. We were on the road for 10 years.

Did you have voltage running to the wire ? :)
