I currently have a IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E but I am at a bad angle to get plates and kind of far.
Was wondering if getting IPC-HDW5231R-Z and putting it on my mailbox was a good idea.
Looks like everyone puts them on corner of their houses and zooms in. Having a camera on the mailbox just seems like it would be right in the face of the plate...
I would just run a cable underground, seems easy.

I dont see why not. The more straight on angle you can get to plates the better the results. I seem to recall more than one person on here has built a birdhouse cam enclosure used for similar reasons.... might be a good idea to hide it somewhat

I don't plan on even hiding the camera. Was just putting to put a turret on the middle post somewhere. I'd rather they see it...

Lucky to have wiring out at your mailbox for that project. Easy with pre existing electrical wire

I personally would not do it in my neighborhood, My mailbox is 300' from the house and twice in 25 years I have gotten a mailbox of fireworks, plow knocks it down a few times a year including a few car hits. A cam would have low survival rate for me but I was thinking of moving a small boulder in my yard near the road and dressing it up with flowers and mulch and hiding the cams behind it perhaps a lpr someday.

I look forward to the day someone hits my mailbox, a 4x6 concreted into the ground will make one hell of a crash!

I am also willing to accept the loss in return for an awesome video :D

I have a brick mailbox that has been hit at least 4 times in 20 years. I live on a street that is more than 1 1/2 miles long and is perfectly straight. How can anyone hit a mail box on a street like that? I was thinking of adding some nice texas drill pipe inside the bick to stop the next car to hit it, but the wife said NO.

I am glad i followed her advice, the next person to hit it was a women that has a WWII nurse and more than 90 years old that had a stroke while driving.
