I'm looking to buy a IPC-HDW5231R-ZE from Andy at @EMPIRETECANDY and had some questions about the cameras cable end.



Question 1: I have a cat5e cable to connect to this, however it looks like that waterproof housing is missing the other half? Should I be buying something to add to the end of my cat5e cable that twists into this waterproof housing?

Questions 2: What should I be doing that the other cable (reset I think?) as that won't be used. Do people cap the end of it or cut it off? Just trying to make it all look at low profile and neat as possible.

When you order the camera from Andy, it will come with one of these water proof connectors in the box. Before you connect the rj45 connector to your rj45 cable, feed the cable through this connector, connect the rj45 connector to the rj45 cable then it screws to the camera female rj45 connector

The second connector is for powering the camera with 12 volts DC if you are not connected to a POE switch. Cutting it off would IMO be a bad idea. I put a cap on them, or cover them with something like coax seal. No harm in leaving it uncovered if it's in a dry area unless it will become a home for insects.

Ah I didn't realise the other half came in the box, thank you!

Thanks tigerwillow1 the 12V alternative power makes sense, must have mistook it for a reset cable I saw on another camera! And yes, bad idea to cut it in this case!

Of course, you will realise that you've left the other half of that waterproof cable housing off right after you start patting yourself on the back for the excellent job you just did attaching that RJ connector to the cable!

Or am I the only one who ever does that? ;)

The Dahua waterproof connectors that I’ve used can be slipped over an RJ45 connector. I just did it the other day. You need to cut a slit in the rubber grommet, but everything else slides right on so long as there isn’t a strain relief boot on it.

Dahua must have sent you a connector different from all of mine, where there's no chance of an rj45 going through the hole.

same here... I eyed them up a bit and saw no way to make it work... didn't worry with it since all my connections are tucked back up in the soffits and hopefully stay dry in my attic

I have realized quite a few times, the kick in the gonads is after I just climbed down off a 10 foot ladder.

Yeah, the one that came with my mini wedge is different. The smaller piece has a cutout that fits the dimensions of the RJ45 connector. I’ll post some pics later.

Here's the "new" Dahua connector style. I was wrong... the larger piece has the special notch for the RJ45 connector. The smaller piece just has a large hole... hehe...

Im thinking Dahua knows that the installers are ageing and had to come up with a way to help us out. I could have gained back about 5 hours of my life in the past 5 years if I had me some of those.
