I need to set up a dahua poe ptz camera at a barn about 1000 feet away and be able to access it at the house. The barn has electricity so that's not a problem.

I am thinking some ubiquiti equipment might work but i've never done this over wifi.

Thanks.

For such distance, I'd use a couple of NanoStation AC Loco 5GHz, cheap and enough powerful ...
Cheers,
So at the house plug in a POE powered switch to the nanostation and on the other end at the barn do the same?

poe powered switch > nanostation at house

poe powered switch > nanostation > dahua ptz

Is that correct?

Thanks.

Well, the LoCo version is 24V passive PoE, if you have a couple of standard (802.3af/at) switches, maybe is better go with the NS5AC which uses PoE standard, and, in the barn, PoE switch, and two cables, one to the NS5AC, the other to the ipcam (actually, the NS5AC has two eth ports, main and secondary, with PoE passthrough, but you have to consider the total power needed, and if your switch can provide it, on a single port, if is 802.3at PoE+, should be up to 25.5W, the NS5AC alone, eats up to 8.5 W ...)
Cheers,

Cheers,
The exact ptz unit I'm using is the SD49225T-HN. It uses 13 watts and 22 watts with IR. It needs poe+. Which one would be best for that, I'm reading some reviews on amazon and I'm a bit unsure if these would work with poe+.

Would it be possible to run the poe out from the nanostation to a poe+ switch that has multiple cameras powered out of the switch?

Think at the wireless bridge as if it would be a CAT5 wire, between the two switches, on the second switch, you can hook up, more or less, what you want, if you are in the middle of nowhere, with no other 5GHz wifi or interferences, you can also use 80 MHz as channel width, which provide a throughput capacity of around 600 Mbps (theorical, 400+ Mbps actual under load). For switches, I use cisco, Edgeswitch and Unifi switch, all not so .. cheap.

Does this look right here.

Yes, that is the NS5AC LoCo with the external passive PoE injector, wiring looks ok

You do have pretty good Line of Sight between the 2 UBNT radios, correct?

Also, UBNT's link on configuring that Layer 2 Transparent Bridge is here.

I set one up similarly last year between someone's house and barn here.

The new AC series, when used in bridge mode, are all L2 transparent, (no needs to enable the WDS, as on the previous M models)

Yeah, as Red said... if you get the Nanostation 5 AC (not the Loco flavor), it'll run on standard PoE. So you would only need a single PoE+ switch in your barn that'll power both the nano uplink & the camera. I'm doing basically the same thing here, but w/ much shorter range from my patio with regular Ubiquiti APs. It was pretty darn easy to configure & the link is very reliable.

Oh, and if you want to keep it all dry, you can put it into one of these like I did:

Good move and looks good.

Haven't built one in a while but the last one I did similar to yours I used Panduit mounts & clips with wire ties (zip ties) in those screw holes for a neat, nice set up.

I like the TA1S8-M because it seems so flexible; the wire tie can be inserted in either of 2 planes, 90 degrees apart. One on either side of a UBNT POE injector allows you to tie it down if the holes in the injector's mounting bracket don't line up. And I avoid stick-on mounts like the plague; they're convenient but soon the heat loosens the adhesive. Most importantly, you can take advantage of existing thread female inserts and not drill any holes in an otherwise pristine (and watertight) enclosure...a big no-no.

The only and I mean the only time I have pierced that protective enclosure is with a sheltered, thermostatically-controlled exhaust fan on the top and sheltered air-intake holes on bottom in a situation where the internal temps in the summer were too much otherwise and forced ventilation was mandatory.

My fav, the TA1-S8-M
Panduit_TA1S8-M.jpg

Great for certain instances, the TM3S10-M

And of course, I still have TONS of these cable clips that help out too, I replace the wood screw and use a machine screw in those brass inserts.

I'd expect the wifi solution to work better, but if the barn is powered from the house, home plug av adapters may be another option. I'm not sure how they behave on a particularly long run.

A lot of Ubiquiti products work with 802.3af and their 24V passive poe. One af/at compliant switch is probably all you need.

To be honest, I've tried the Devolo dLAN® 1200+, and the dLAN® pro 1200 DINrail, result ...I've repalced the av adapters the same day that I've installed 'em with a couple of Nanobeam AC Gen2, not even to compare .. (yes, I had full LoS... :))
Cheers,

Cheers,
Believe me, I fully understand that wifi is better. Powerline products are sometimes cheaper and part of me is curious how they behave on a longer distance run.
With good LOS, I probably wouldn't bother with HomePlug AV2.
