Be really careful with these solar panel guys. Lots of them are really shady. Particularly those that install the panels for "free" and essentially charge you for using their panels and you are stuck with them on your roof for 25 years and the new buyer must agree to keep them. I had one client come into my office, the solar guy asked him to sign an electronic signature pad under the pretext of needing authorization to go up on the roof. They took his signature and pasted it all over a contract agreeing to install the solar panels. Needless to say they could not explain how all the signatures were identical.
$0.089 kWH for basic power, $0.045 kWH for what the City calls off-peak rate.
My heating is dual-fuel, electric and natural gas. It runs on electric unless the City hits high demand then, at least in theory, they can signal the system to change from electric to gas. However, I've not ever noticed that to happen. For allowing the City to have this control, they give me the off-peak rate on the electricity used to heat the house (there is a separate meter for this). I haven't had a gas bill, aside from the monthly connection fee, in probably 12 years. The A/C also runs through the load management system but neither has that ever been cut back, that I noticed.
One day a few years back there is a knock on the door and it's a dude from the gas company. He says they need to replace the gas meter because it's not registering any gas usage. I said change it if you must, but the new meter isn't going to read any different than the existing meter; going on to explain why. I still have the old meter. LOL.

I believe I'm paying about $0.25/kwh in Southern California and we're not even a heavy user since we lack air conditioning. Its only going to get more expensive too as the People's Republic of California attempts to force its subjects to reverse global warming all by themselves. Unfortunately, solar is not an option since I rent. As California becomes a majority-renter state, it'll be interesting to see what happens with solar. Someone living in a 3 story apartment doesn't have enough roof space to install a meaningful amount of solar. I guess we'll all just have to bend over, sit in the dark, and sweat like pigs.

As far as I know, these would be owned by me. Really all guesswork until I see numbers from them. I will watch for that in the paperwork for sure.

If you do decide to go with solar, get 4 quotes and start doing your own research on the solar forums. You dont want to make a mistake.

grr... can't find the link. canada is the worlds largest exporter of lead paint, mostly to places like india. Lead paint has frequently been used to stripe roads

Currently around $0.16 / kwH for electricity from the grid.
And getting a generation tariff of $0.65 / kwH for power generated from solar panels, about an 11% ROI.
Plus the solar generation feeds the house with the surplus going in to the grid.
No generated storage though. Yet.

We are now at €0.21 in The Netherlands.
And they intend to phase gas out here. So electricity became somewhat cheaper and gas price goes up.

I’m Minnesota as well at $0.12 through Connexus electric. I haven’t measured my BI setup but I do run a rack of servers that average $100/month. I have a power meter on their circuit to track use.
