Like title says, this camera (ancient) doesn't seem to work well IR illumination. While the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE has great IR illumination works perfectly at night, I put this camera next to it to see if that IR would allow the Axis 207W to see at night. No luck.

I removed the camera's housing but didn't find any IR cut filters or plastic clear lens of any type.

Just curious if you guys have any tips before I move on with this.

did you try remove the lens and see if the CCD sensor react to IR ? IR filter can be just a layer covering the sensor or directly back side of the lens (by the way I still have 2 of the 3 x 207W running for 10 years now ;-)

That's awesome! I haven't tried it without the lens. I checked the lens itself and the sensor and there is no other extra glass or plastic piece..
I am somewhat surprised here because the camera works with proper colors so, an IR Cut filter must be in place. Perhaps the lens itself is coated? Anyway, will see if it works without the lens and we'll know.

One more thing, I think this camera (even with the latest firmware) only supports WEP. WEP was broken years ago so, it's not secure. Better go with physical wire.

if sensor do not react to IR light then sensor is coated, if not then the lens is coated usually on back side and you may sse it playing with normal light reflection that should be redish), easy to test.

207W do WPA2

Tested it finally and the lens itself has an IR cut coating or element. Sensor reacted quite well with IR light from other camera. Not sure if there are any lenses that would work for this. Axis docs say it is 4mm f/2.0 lens.

This camera is 13 years old. Belongs in a museum or trash bin, completely useless.

whenever I do have recent cams I still use 2 x 207W and I will not get rid of them just becaue they are old because they do the job I assigned to them, of course they are not fullHD they are not IR auto switchable but for their purpose I don't need those features.

It's like a car, I do have one from 1993 and I will not get rid of it just because it is "outdated", it's old yes but still usable for my needs and I have a more recent one for other usages.

whatever, if you want to use a vga camera using mpeg4 knock yourself you...the op was putting time into an old piece of junk that could be replaced with a 20 dollar camera. These belong in the trash.
A 1993 vehicle uses more fuel, has repair costs and little safety features. Its time to move on. Dont hold on to your wallet that tight.

Both of you are right in my opinion. I was not going to "update" this camera with a new lens. At the same time, I am not going to throw it away either. It is going to used to monitor the HVAC closet. Think "machine vision" :) Couple LED lights and all set. Technically, I could buy another but, this would do the job perfectly and I don't need all the features. It is more of a curiosity thing why this camera was not working with IR...

Exactly I think it's up to each one to decide whenever they want to spend time on oldies whenever it is for fun or technical curiosity and it is not because someone else think different that you are wrong, do what ever you want, it's not up to me to decide what they have to do but you asked a question and I answered it the way you needed that's what a forum is supposed to be used for.

I also spend time on oldies time to time, for example I am right now fixing an old computer Laptop mother board (not powering on at all), I found it's because is a small MOSFET component ($1 piece of elecronic, one of my hobbies), of course the time I spent was far too long if you look at the age of the computer (still running XP by the way) but again it is all about the purpose, and this computer belong to an old women (with Alzheimer) and the only thing she likes and now about this computer is to play Scrabble and Solitaire that's all (no Internet) and changing its computer would be too disturbing for her, because of the disease, it's like my old car that I only use it for short transport mainly to get rid of garbage and crap and my wife would certainely not agree I'll do it with our newer car ;-) it do not use much fuel (never did because it is small sized car), do not need more "safety" for few miles transport, and it cost me nothing as this car do not use any electronic or extra features that you often cannot fix by yourself and in this car never needed any special fixing appart from "usual" liek breaks or oil because it is "simple".

Hope you'll enjoy your small camera !

Fyi, most accidents happen near your home. My 10 month old car was totaled last year when the guy around the corner blew a stop sign - one block from home. I also not need your advice on what my forum should be used for. When someone is wasting time on crap, I will let them know.

Reminds me of an excerpt from "A Letter From A Redneck Mother To Her Son":

"...Your dad read inthe paper that most accidents happen within twenty miles of home, so we moved..." :lmao:

This Axis 207A was my first IP Cam and it still works too. Granted, it's useless for seeing a face but it's alright for recognizing motion. Funny enough, a workman bounced it today and I had to get him to reposition it. I have it looking at a door on a step, something it's not very good at. I'll likely be replacing it with something better soon.
