I planned on getting an NVR+IP Camera setup for the purpose of viewing my store online through the Hik-Connect app. But while I was looking for NVRs online, I happened to see a Hikvision DVR that claimed the live feed could be accessed through the Hik-Connect app.

So now I'm a bit confused, what exactly is the difference between an NVR and DVR setup if my purpose is to check the live feed from multiple cameras connected to them? Apart from the fact that an ip camera could be connected independently through the App compared to the standard camera.

Both NVR's and DVR's can be set up to view and operate remotely as long as they are connected to a network that has internet access. The difference between an NVR and a DVR is NVR's are meant for IP cameras while DVR's are meant for analog cameras. If you are installing new then use IP cameras which use cat5e / cat6 cable.

Unfortunately after some cost analysis, I found the IP route too expensive compared to the Analog one:

1. DVR: DS-7204HUHI-K1 - $86
2. Camera: HIKVISION DS-2CE56H0T-ITMF (5MP) - $64 for 2pcs
Total: $150

1. NVR: Hikvision DS-7604NI-E1/4P (1080P) - $85
2. Camera: Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS (4MP) - $170 for 2pcs
Total: $255

I'm confused as to why though since the analog camera even seemed to offer a bit better resolution than the ip camera (5mp vs 4mp). Is the color accuracy better on the ip camera or am I missing something here video quality-wise? Or did the additional cost come from mostly due to the ip camera's technology like being able to function/stream independently?
