We recently had to get a new router/modem. Out of the 7 cameras 5 work but, even when I press the Find/Inspect button to look for available ip's nothing comes up even the ip's that are working. I went into my router and found all attached devices and pinged everyone that could possibly be a camera and all the pings came back as good. Should BI pick up these ip's? why is it not showing any available ip's?
I do not know if it is something to do with the ports? Guy at work told me maybe that's it bc I lost access on my mobile phone, which I'm sure the ip's on the phone are incorrect now. I did have a port forwarding set on the old router, but I'm lost and not even sure how I did that last time.

Its got nothing to do with your mobile phone.
You need to use your routers dhcp reservation to reserve the ip of the blue iris pc and each camera so their ip's always stay the same. Once you know each ip address you will need to enter it in BI.

Why are none of the ip’s appearing when I run a “find/inspect”? Is that the dchp reserv. issue too?

You should read the help file in BI. Find/Inspect will not automatically select the proper IP Address for you. You need to manually configure your cams and your IPs. Seems pretty likely the IPs changed when the router changed and you need to fix that. Using dhcp reservation will prevent that from happening again. You could tell us some details like camera type and router type, but in the end your going to have to learn how to configure your devices.

The new router is a netgear nighthawk c7000 I think. I have a mix of sharx and GW cameras. The router picks up all the attached devices ip’s, so I know the ones that are left must be cameras. It’s just when I enter them in BI nothing happens. This is just for the last two, the previous 5 I did worked fine.

Install an ONVIF discovery tool. That way you'll know, for sure, which ones you need to access with BI. Alternately, install a port scanner. Cameras will probably show as using 554.

If you leave the ip address blank it will search for the cameras available.

you have likely not selected the proper camera from the dropdown menu or you have the wrong ip addresses. Try logging into the camera via browser, if you cant, then blue iris cant.

well thats the thing not sure, when I got back SAT morning and ran a find/inspect all the ip's came up. So I went into the router and did the address reservation for all the cameras and the computer that has BI. Also had to set the port forwarding to http 80-81

Glad to hear you got it working!

Can we convince you to not port forward? Read the link on VPN above and consider setting up. Port forwarding is dangerously insecure.

Would only allowing me and my wife's mobile phones MAC addresses to be allowed to forward to that port be ok?

Ever hear of spoofing a MAC address? It's just like spoofing phone number. Port forwarding is just a no-no under any circumstances.

No never heard of it, all this stuff is over my head, read the VPN article understand a little. So it is basically going into my router and setting it up, don't have to do any other setup on other devices? We have 4 PC's, 1 MAC along with the 7 cameras and WIFI for our customers so I'm just worried I might do something that puts us down longer than expected. IT guy at my other job says we wouldnt be able to do it and view on our phones but, looks like in the article we would with some setup?

Not familiar with the Netgear router but it should be documented. If it supports OpenVPN, that's what you want. You will need to put .ovpn file on both phones and the OpenVPN app. You will also create a log on for each user in the router.

Then when you open the app on your phone and connect, you are inside your lan. You can use the BI app to view cams or browser. IT guy is incorrect in this case. If you don't have a static IP you will need some form of Dynamic DNS. Your router will have config for this as well. A bit of work but very worthwhile. You might find a thread here for setting up your specific router. If not, I am sure there are good docs on the Netgear site.

Good Luck!

Well I am having the same issue again. Wife had to reset the router Monday morning and it cleared all my cameras off of BI. Had to adjust some settings and 3 out of the 8 are not working. When I click find inspect no ip's come up not even the ones that are working. I logged on the router and I can see all the cameras. Tried unplugging cameras, restarting BI hoping it would just work like last time, no luck.

I was sure what settings I had before she rebooted the router but I changed these, is this correct?

- WAN Setup- unchecked "disable port scan ..." checked off "default DMZServer" and put the cameras computer in that address block
-LAN Setup- Use Gateway as DHCP Server I changed the starting IP address to 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.2 ? not sure why I did this. I also reserved a few of the cameras addresses to see if that would get them to show up on BI, nope.
-IPV6- The auto config is checked off, but shouldnt I check off "Use DHCP Server", server settings pop up when I check it just not sure if I just leave whats in the fields or if I need to put something else.
