Hi Everyone,

I'm a total newbie so excuse my probably obvious mistakes.

I bought a NVR 5216 w/ Poe with ip cams (also Dahua). My understanding was that same brand of ip cam and nvr are plug and play. When the camera is connected to a poe port, it does not show in cam registration. However, in camera menu and POE sub menu it shows the cam taking 4-5 watts of wattage.

My cabling is cat5e (normal) from Monoprice. If connected with a short cable, the cam will display in cam register.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

More information would be helpful. Are the cameras on the NVR on the same subnet?

The NVR does not recognize them as cameras. Every camera was reset to factory settings, should that set them on the same subnet? Also, doesnt the NVR set all the settings?

Try logging into the web interface of the NVR, its a much better experience. Open a web browser on your network that the NVR is on and go to the IP address of the NVR.. something like 192.168.1.108 . You can hit a button that says 'Device Search" which will likely find them, or you can add them manually if you know the IP address.

If the issue is only happening with your self made cables, then you likely did not wire them to the 568B standard which is a must. You cannot simply match both ends. Also double check your crimps.

Use premade cables for the initial setup. After a camera is set on a port on the NVR, never change the camera port.

Did you end up resolving this? I am potentially having the same issue with the 5216. POE tab shows power but there is no network connectivity to the cameras.

More info needed.
What exact cam and nvr are you using?
Are you plugging the cams directly into the POE ports on the NVR?
If you are using current model Dahua NVR's and cameras, it is plug and play. It may take a few minutes for that to occur.
Be sure you are using known good network cables.
Otherwise see @bigredfish post earlier in this thread.

I've posted an entire thread discussing the issue here: NVR5416-16P-4KS2E ... was working ... now all cameras disconnected

I ask if this particular issue is resolved because through discussion with Andy, we now suspect that the issue in my case is a faulty POE board in my NVR. Andy's sending me a new one. It would be quite suspect if @beebeebee is having the exact same issue with the same model NVR. It could mean that there is a bad batch of NVRs out there, and we've been unlucky recipients of them.

Hey, my issue was resolved by changing the wiring diagram to 568B. That's what the issue was. Hope this helps!
