Hi, hope someone can help with this.

My Dahua DVR was working fine with email notifications of alarm and IVS. However it has suddenly stopped working and I've received no email notifications since the 4th Feb. I've gone into the email settings and done a Test which constantly reports Mail Test Error. Have tried a different Gmail account and same problem. The DVR has internet access as it is updating the time ok and I can access the system over the network from both the LAN and WAN side. I've also tried resetting the password for the Gmail account but the problem remains.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why this suddenly stopped working? As mentioned this worked perfectly for years and now has suddenly stopped.

It is Gmail. There are a number of forum posts on this issue. Try a different email provider.

Ah ok many thanks for the reply. I assume this is something recent with Gmail then?

Any recommendations for a reliable alternative?

Thanks for those links. Very helpful.

However changing the port to 587 with TLS still doesn't work. The email test still returns error.

Did you ever figure out a solution? I have tried so many things and can not get it to pass the test, it always fails.

For some reason it all started working again. No idea why but I now get email notifications again and I'm still using Gmail. However I now find the push notifications from the iOS app much better and typically use that instead of emailed photo notifications.

I'm having the same issue. Notifications suddenly stopped working. Tried to create a new gmail account and that didn't work either. Did you do anything different?

Welcome to IPCT!

On that "new" account, did you log into your Google account and:
  • Turn off 2-Step Security ?
  • Enable use less secure apps. ?
  • Use Port 587 / TLS ?

Ok I just tried creating another email - GMX. It STILL doesn't work. :-( This is after it worked flawlessly for 3 weeks!

First one thing that worked for me before: make sure you have adequate remaining storage in Gmail. One time I had my DVR stop sending via GMail when my Sent mail exhausted my storage. Deleting most sent mail and emptying trash got it working again.

HOWEVER, the problem has recurred -- alerts via GMail just stopped working, and I have plenty of available storage. I switched to Yahoo, still no luck.

I welcome ideas.

same problem here, stopped working in the evening now 2 - 3 days ago...

Can't get it up again, tried with gmail new account, yahoo account, my own hosting account (like pop3),.... all the same.
Will there be an update on the internet of protocols or something?????

I think the problem is the DAHUA NVR... but were can you find that info??

I've got the same issue, everything was fine until May 30, then emails stopped being sent. No problems with the Internet connection. I tried changing email ports (465/587), Gmail account, switching to Yahoo.. nothing. Any clue will be appreciated. Thanks.

I went through exactly the same steps you did, and nothing worked until I created an outlook.com account, TLS, port 587, which worked.

Other thoughts:
  • Be sure your GMail is not out of storage. All these emails are kept in your Sent folder, and the images can exhaust our storage. Solution: delete your old emails and then empty trash.
  • Another example of GMail randomness with the NVR: I originally used SSL / port 465 until one day it stopped working. Changing to TLS / port 587 got it working again, but only for a few months. June 4 it stopped again. I fixed it June 8 by switching to Outlook.com. I have no idea if this is a long-term fix.

Thanks RMatt, I'll give it a try with Outlook.com. The same issue with Gmail occurs with a brand new account, so it shouldn't be related to the full Sent folder. I can also confirm your same experience: it was originally working fine with SSL / port 465, then stopped working. Moving to TLS / port 587 it was fine again, then finally stopped working on May 30....

Just to confirm - for now everything back to normal with outlook.com and TLS port 587... hopefully it'll last for a while... Thanks RMatt for the heads up!
