I bought one of these too, expecting on Tuesday. Normally the FoV on this is way too wide for my liking but I have a great overview place for this and it will let me see if I like Hiks vs the Dahua before I get a couple more cameras.

That's disappointing that the specs are wrong.
Terrible just terrible. Now you need to figure out who made the mistake dahua or hik. Buy both and start taking measurements.

some daytime videos here:
IPCT 4k
[(not sure if/how flickr munges them...)

FrontEastOverview is the Dahau 1831. Camera1 is the new IPCT with goofy dahua-like model number HFW5831RE-I

How are the specs wrong? Field of View is determined by focal length and sensor size. The two cameras you are comparing do not have similar sensors. There are some great interactive calculators out there to use for this...
Found one. If I want an equivalent FOV as 1/3" and 3.6mm, then 1/2" would need to be approximately 5mm.

@pozzello make sure you are using a 12V 2A adapter or else it won't work. If your adapter is not 12V 2A then it is too weak and won't power on. I really highly doubt there is an issue with the camera. Please double check your power supply. The power supplies you have laying around most likely are not 12V 2A.

46051080135_1cc09002a9_o.jpg Yes, Mike. I have tried 4 different 12V 2a positive tip ac/dc wall wart power adapters that all power my other cams just fine.
I'm not sure you're doing yourself any favors by doubting me in a public forum (granted, your forum, but still).
I wanted to like this cam, but it just plain doesn't work on 12v.
While I'd most likely only use it with PoE, I'd expect 12v input to work on any new cam...
I will initiate Amazon return process. You and they can figure it out. No need to replace it. thanx.

I'm not doubting you, I'm trying to troubleshoot. I told you I will take care of you no matter what. The reason why I said make sure your power adapters are 12V 2a is because none of mine that I have laying around at my house are.

i understand. i troubleshoot things for a living myself. no hard feelings.
I'm sure it's just a fluke QA oversight. Amazon return initiated.

Pray tell why not. There are lots of folks here who dont know what they are doing. For example in your other posts you didnt even know the sensor size of a camera. You may or may not be one of them. Mike was clear that it would be replaced and you are within your right to return it to amazon. These are hikvisions, we know they are reliable. Your experience not withstanding.

I've got this camera, and so far there is a lot to like. I'm still trying to dial in the settings - slightly different given all my prior experience was with the Dahua's. Additionally I've only got to play with it at night so far, have to see what it looks like in the light tomorrow!
Hoping you can help answer some random questions...
- I've currently got it set to Constant / 16,384 Bitrate / H.264 / 8fps / 8 iFrame, SVC Off, Smoothing = 1. I'm thinking my max bitrate is probably overkill, but based on the resolution and FPS - any suggestions?
- The Exposure Settings are different than Dahua, I generally use the shutter speed custom range - however here it seems like my only option is Manual and to set a specific exposure time. Anything I'm missing here? Setting to 1/30 seems half-way decent at night... I haven't got to play with this during the day yet.
- Any reason to consider BLC/WDR/HLC? Seems the picture quality is, for the most part, worse (at least at night). I was hoping HLC would have some impact on the oncoming headlights, but it doesn't seem to do much there without making the car itself almost invisible.
- Am I able to use any of the smart events and have it trigger an event/alert within Blue Iris? I vaguely recall that the Dahua camera events were not picked up, and my search-fu hasn't turned up anything on Hik.

nice. you have the IR on in that shot?
looks like some IR reflections off snow or dust floating by.
IR probably not needed, so you might eliminate those by disabling it...

I found that on Youtube. The night quality on this cameras is better than the 4K Amcrest bullets that I'll slowly be replacing.

Any ETA on when this camera will be back in stock on Amazon? I had one in my cart, but someone bought it as I was selecting a mount.

I already purchased the 4MP turret, but would like the 8MP for a different location.
