Looking for some input on possible placement height.

I am exploring adding a IPC-HDBW4231F-AS to my front door. I have an intercom system that we don't use that already has cat5. I would more or less add a camera in place of the intercom. Mounting height would be about 54"-55" - see picture.

There is already a camera on my front porch to cover activity.

Would this be too low?

It's worth a shot. It will certainly be better than what you have now :)

will you lose your doorbell though?

If you already have a camera covering that area, it seems like a waste. Consider waiting for a decent poe doorbell/cam to surface at a good price.

Mike - No. There is still a traditional doorbell.

Fenderman, as far as waiting I may just do that. I feel comfortable with the results I have got up to this point.

Hi @thejonb

I really like the front door camera at eye level, and as close to the frame of the door as possible.

I also want to be certain that anyone coming to my front door crosses through at least 2 camera zones to increase my chances of a good ID image.

With ya on that. I am still perfecting my long term setup. Waiting for the rain to stop to get my second driveway cam up. I think that will leave the front door camera as the last item to have full coverage out front.

I haven't had (or heard of in the neighborhood) any issues with package theft. We definitely get car door checkers and unannounced guests/solicitors knocking at the door.

...and then pretty soon it will be time to get the back yard adequately covered.

Which direction is your front door facing? My entrance is south facing and if I mount my front door camera too low I will have problems whenever it faces the sun, especially during winter when the sun is sitting lower.
