I have a Dahua NVR (NVR2104HS-P-S2) which does not support IVS feature, however my cameras can support that. Currently the cameras are connected to the NVR built in poe ports.

Can anyone confirm whether this will work:
1) Remove the cameras currently connected to the NVR poe ports
2) Connect the cameras to external poe switch which connects to the LAN
3) Use the existing Dahua NVR to discover the cameras through the LAN and use that for recording function only
4) Since the cameras connects to the LAN through the poe switch, I can then enable the IVS feature on the cameras

Do you know whether the above idea can be implemented so that I can use the IVS feature on the cameras?

Will the NVR that have the built-in poe ports able to discover cameras on the LAN or I need a NVR without the poe ports?

If the NVR is able to discover the cameras and add it to the list, will it disable the features that it doesn't support? What I mean is after I add the cameras to the NVR, can I still able to use the IVS feature that is not supported by the NVR, will the NVR somehow still try to disable the camera's feature even though it is not directly connected to it?

I have a Dahua NVR That DID support IVS but after a firmware update it disabled or lost IVS function, Some of my cams do have IVS but if the NVR does not support it, its toast weather it through the build it POE or external POE switch. If you look under recording or event options on your NVR you will have options
Setup--->Schedule---->Recording, If you do not see IVS as a option in there doing all that will be wasting your time.

You could always DO that and use Smart PSS to a local drive.

So you mean I can't use the IVS feature of the camera even if it doesnt go through the NVR?

You can use Blue Iris or smartPSS but as far as recording IVS events with or to your NVR NO. Your NVR in setup would have to look like this.

The nvr can only do what it knows about If it doesn't know about ivs then whether you plug in a device that know it directly or through a poe won't make a difference. The nvr needs to be ivs compatible to understand ivs and then record it.
