Thanks @looney2ns, I love your posts and how detailed they are its made researching everything much easier. I've gone through the cliff notes a few times which is a good run down of most things but was looking for a more personal experience of the Verifocal on a narrow fixed position vs a static focal lens if its worth the upto $100 investment per camera.

I am a person that does love the ridiculous don't get me wrong, the house is wired with 10GB networking copper/fiber, Cisco switches and Sophos Firewall. I was half tempted to store the video on my 100TB NAS but I don't think I want the wear of all the writes on my 10TB drives so I'll go with the NVR for now.

Thanks again for the info.
Where are you seeing a $100 difference?
The fixed IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE sells for ~$120 shipped
The Varifocal 2231 Review-Dahua IPC-HDW2231RP-ZS Starlight Camera-Varifocal Sells for ~$129 shipped.
The Varifocal 5231ze Review-Dahua Starlight IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 800 meter capable ePOE ~$179 shipped.
Be sure you are looking at the International models, and not the China Region cams that have been hacked to english. firmware can't be upgraded, and should be avoided.

Sorry when I was comparing I was referring to the two Bullet Cams and have seen the HFW2231S around the 75 dollar mark vs the higher end 5k series are in the 170-180 range. But moving to the Turrets with microphone sounds like it would be a better option over all, its just the additional mounts cost does bring up the bill on the cheaper 129 cams to 150ish. I would be looking at roughly 900? for just cameras (not counting the PTZ).

I think I can swing it (tax return and all :) ) I'll talk to Andy here in a bit to get a quote for some cameras and the NVR.

I think the HFW2231S is not an IP (network cable) Camera, but rather a coax camera.
You're right, it was more or less those two IPC-HFW4231E-S vs IPC-HFW5231E-Z I was looking at, but it doesn't matter now with the feed back I have been given.

So I guess at this point I am going to be looking at getting 5 5231z or 5231ze depending on a price breaks 3 wall mounts and the NVR5216 non POE.

Look good to you peeps? :)

FYI: 5231z was discontinued over a year ago. 5231ze is the replacement.
