So it will run right up to the limit size that was entered on the "Clips and archiving" tab and then it will delete one file (the oldest)? Or maybe whenever it creates a new file it checks to see if it is already over the limit and then will delete the oldest file?

Make sure the limit is less than the total disk space leave more than 5% free. If you use the stored folder Have it on a different disc.

Check your allocation set up in bi.

Seems a bit vague. So we don't really know how it works?

I'm going to allow 4GB free for each camera plus one extra 4GB. So what happens if I'm wrong?

(Also set the allocations for all the unused folders (Aux 1-7) to 1GB)

Uh, doesn't the database keep a record of every bvr file, and doesn't the db get compacted/rebuilt/repaired/checked every 24 hours? Apparently my database was off. Also, if I delete any files from the "New" folder I then need to click the "Repair DB" button?

if you manual delete any BI data files the DB needs to be rebuilt. There is no need to manual delete any BI files. The BI system if properly configure handles the files correctly.

Apparently my db was off by quite a bit. And I think the dumb Windows Backup was enabled and used up some space.

Check you disk space in bi. Click the status button, the three vertical bars, select the clip storage tab. Absolutely no red on any of the bars. Only allocate 95% of the free drive space to bi. Never allocate 100% drive space to bi.

Windows backup is not dumb. It is in fact off by default, so perhaps its an issue with the user.

I had to restore from an automated Windows image backup once, only to find out they'd deprecated the feature with some win10 update and broken the image restore procedure and no workarounds existed. Windows backup is dumb.
That may been a bug in that particular update. Still works fine.

The sparsest setting is daily and keep for a month -- or 30 copies. That is dumb.
