Greeting friends,

The wife has given the GO ahead for purchasing another camera. :-D

After reading through the threads, the following camera appears to be a good fit for the entry door use. The form factor seems just right for that purpose.

I plan on buying the EmpireTech IP Camera IPC-HFW1831C-PIR 8MP WDR IR 2.8mm Fixed Lens Mini Bullet Network Camera New Model H. 265&H.264 English Version through Andy's amazon store.

thanks !

Here's the review: Review-Dahua IPC-HFW1831C-PIR 4k Mini Bullet

I was thinking about this too, but thought - what if there are false alarms and it starts blaring in the middle of the night because a squirrel runs past?

Other than that I like the alarm feature
@Alan Carter - thanks for the review link. I found it as well.
So, regarding the alarm, is there not a way to disable it altogether or control it some way to not face the situation you described?
Ideally, I would prefer to have the alerts sent to my phone only.

You can disable the alarm... The alarm is not blaring it will not wake you, it's just loud enough to scare off somebody messing with your car.

OK Thanks fenderman. Would you recommend this over the 2231 or 5231 for the front door? I also, like OP, want some deterrent capabilities..

Yes it will have no problem capturing people right at your door which is what you need with a camera like that.

I also have two of the most famously discussed 2MP starlight varifocal turrets - both purchased through Andy from EmpireTech.
I am slooooooooooooly building my 'cam network' :p. Have been gathering the needed equipment as the finances permit.
In the meantime, I try to read up here as much and often as possible.

Yeah I think it's a LOT to take in myself; just about to put myorder in. And next have to deal with all the cabling etc. I don't want to think about it :D

Reading is freeeeeee :) here. Check out the cliff notes, in case you haven't already.
At some point, I will create a different 'version' of the 'cliffnotes' to share my journey and things I continue to learn as a newbie.

Just a heads up that mine came out of the box with the alarm features enabled, so be prepared for that lovely experience when it first boots up and detects motion. :)
Ahh, thanks for that tip. I will definitely keep that in mind.
