Anyone have any experience with this camera? They make a 2MP version as well. I'm curious how it would compare to the Dahua Starlights? Thanks!

Not real impressed with night quality and the dome halo reflection is pretty noticeable.

Thanks for the review.
I might have missed it, but I don’t think it was mentioned that this camera is vandal-proof IK10.
I’m not sure how useful that is in this case.
It seems to me that while the camera may be able to withstand an attack from a bat or hammer,
it could also just be pretty easily detached from its mount.

I have this camera on my deck.
Like the review said, it’s IR is not great by itself.
But with IR from other cameras, it’s fine.
And during the daytime, it is excellent.

Have you enabled "Smart Events" and then played back your recordings to look for problems? I have one of these and it's going back to Provantage. After getting zero useful information from Hikvision USA's technical support, and in fact getting the ridiculous reply that essentially their cameras could not meet the video specifications that they claim, I eventually figured out on my own that enabling smart events causes serious video freezing and even ghosting. We're talking about 4 to 6 seconds freezes at times, such that of course you lose anything that happened during that time.

Yes I also have the basic motion detection enabled, and I did not try shutting that off and using smart events only. If I shut off smart events, there are no video freezing or ghosting problems. FWIW I only record to the micro SD card in the camera, and I have no NVR/DVR at all so any limitations are purely in camera. Switching from a Sandisk Ultra to a Sandisk Extreme card made no difference. I do use maximum quality video settings across the board.

Interestingly enough, I also have a DS-2CD2642FWD-IZS that shows the same behavior with smart events enabled, although there is no ghosting and in general the freezes do not exceed 2 seconds. Shut off smart events and the issue again goes away. Both cameras are 4x zoom models, and both also share a failure to properly focus at night. When the scheduled switch kicks in, they refocus and always leave the image slightly out of focus. At times the daytime focus is not great either.

As someone mentioned in the YouTube comments, the default max for the IR is 30%. Things get much brighter at 100%, but the odd side placement of 2 of the IR LEDs does mean that this camera will not be good for night distance viewing, even if it didn't have video freezing problems and defocus problems. You can see some of the poor focusing in the dark in the YouTube video.

I just installed this yesterday for a friend. I’m having problems getting the patrol to work. I’ve set the presets and tried pattern nothing seems to work. I have installed the DS-2DE3304W-DE before. No problems getting that to work properly. It is connected to an 8ch NVR. It works great in the daytime and ptz functions fine. But I just can’t get it to Patrol. Any ideas?

I've never experienced an issue like that with these specific cameras. Did you try upgrading the firmware? If so, default the camera after the upgrade. I've found that to fix the majority of problems with Cameras and recorders.

Also your settings could be the culprit. Send a screenshot of your audio/video page if you want, if so, I can tell you what may be causing it.

I bought 2 last week, the mount does s*ck @ $239 they're fine @ $349 they're not worth it. I added a IR light on peak of roof under the eave. It's like daylight now! I call it my a$$hole neighbor detector, if they only knew how well and far it can see in total darkness.

There is not much information regarding how well this PTZ would pick up color in darkness without their IR lights activated. I understand it doesn't have Darkfighter technology but still it would be nice to see what it can pick up in this situation given it's F stop and corresponding lux ratings. Does this PTZ work well enough to recognise the color of objects in the dark if their IR lights are not activated?

I have 2x of these myself.
I also have 1x Dahua 1A203TNI.

The biggest and most noticeable difference is that the DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3 has significantly less dome distortion.
The Dahua gets very blurry at the edges.

The Hik does have a much nicer zoom too. It’s quicker and the digital zoom looks respectable.

Obviously the image is going to be a little better on the Hik, the 4mp sensor is quite good.
The dynamic range is slightly inferior to the Dahua, but nothing that is deal-breaking.

They are very close for nighttime performance.
I live on a very dark street and low light performance is the most important thing for me. I watch my work Van which is parked on the street. The Dahua does stay in color in lower light. The Hik seems to have better IR range too.
The most noticeable difference is the night mode image-ghosting. The Hik does suffer a little bit more from ghosting/trailing with similar contrast objects.

Overall, I am very happy with the Hik.
I would recommend without reservation.

I just installed one and it seems to have problems with low FPS even at 1280x720, for example when you fist boot it it starts with normal fps and after a while it starts decreasing even as low as 1 or 2 fps... Also the Hikvision website doesn't have any firmware updates for this model. I regret buying this camera.

Thought i would comment on the fps of this PTZ hikvision.
I have the rebranded hinovision version. i noticed the frame rate stays in the 19 fps at a setting of 24 fps. Mine does stay steady with specific max bitrate selected. Too high or Low bitrate and the fps starts to drop. I can't get it higher then 19-20 fps with any combination of settings. Maybe try and change with the bitrate to get a steady fps.

Update! I had wdr enabled during the day. Disabled it and the fps went to the set value.

I don't know for sure - but it looks like this firmware covers model series including yours :

Also another piece of info I took notice. Using the ivs software you can increase the zoom range from the default 4x. Not too sure if it has any I’ll effects .

i have one and real happy with it, daytime really good and a few curl tweaks for night viewing are just as good, zoom is *4 optical and goes way beyond with the digital zoom and again the digital zoom works very well upto *16 then right up to *32 which is acceptable.

Agree on the daytime image. The night seems a bit out of focus. Any tips for better night time videos/image ? Also do you know anything about the 30% ir limit ? Read a few post up about it. I looked at my settings . Appears to be locked on auto.
