Hi All,

Under BI options (Click on the gear icon)
Under.........Software support + Maintenance section.
there are 3 options that used to allow user to select(tick in the box), namely......

1) Prompt at Startup (grey out = option not selectable)
2) Recheck everyday at: time (grey out = option not selectable)
3) Automatic download and install (grey out = option not selectable)
4) Check for update now (grey out = option not selectable)
See the picture attached below.

I remember last time on the previous/earlier version of BI, I think it was ver. 4.6.x /4.5.x, I cannot
remember exactly which version, I did DISABLE the 3rd option = Automatic download and install.

Reason being my PC still was using Windows 7 x64, and every time a newer version of BI came out,
BI will install automatically and unknowingly and resulted my system to have problems in terms
of stability and buggy.

Once Automatic download and install was turned off/unticked, the problem ceased
to happen, BI will just run months and months without an issue.

But, somehow, or someone (install the upgrade remotely) or my staff went in BI and did an
upgrade (not sure this is true or not) to the newer version of v4.8.x.

As a result this option: Automatic download and install is GREY out.

What does GREY out means, BI will auto upgrade itself without human interference?
Because, just lately my BI software is having hanging problem (software will
hang a pop message telling user to close the program) and in the past this problem
does not appear at all.

Anyone has got this experience on BI running on Windows 7 x64 PC?

Thank you.

Yes, I have now upgraded to the latest version of BI v4.8.6.3(6th April 2019),
running on my Windows 7 Pro PC.

The only changes happened after doing the update running the file: update64.exe
Check for updates = is enabled (not GREY out)

Automatic download and install option is still.............GREY out. Why?
How enable this function? Or this option is no longer in control by the user?

Just a guess, but since the next version of BI, version 5, won't run on Win7 and requires Windoohs 10 I think the automatic check/download/install stuff is disabled on Win7 machines. If the next update is BI 5 and it was automatically downloaded/installed it would fail on Win7. Sheer speculation, but seems to make sense to me, even after only a half cup of coffee.

What you are seeing now is normal when your support subscription has expired.

To confirm what fenderman said is true...........
I had a spare i7 4790 PC lying around, I installed Windows 10 Pro, and got BI (latest version-4.8.6.3) installed.
If BI is running DEMO trial version, all 3 options are able to choose (no Grey out)

Once I entered my license key for BI ( my subscription for support had long expired),
the 3 options will be automatically grey out:
