I've been following the Dahua firmware threads for some time and recently bought a few "un-branded" IPC-HFW4431R-Z units. They have 3.2.1.404565 FW in them. I don't have any specific reason to upgrade them, so far they seem to be doing what I need them to, but is it possible to upgrade a blank-label IPC-HFW4431R-Z? Is there any major improvement to be gained, or is it just a risk of bricking it?

Thanks all.

I believe that this will have "hacked" firmware on it probably wouldn't be a good idea to upgrade the firmware.

If it's working fine, DON'T risk a firmware upgrade. Until and unless you confirm having a known bug corrected by later firmware, it's not worth the risk.

Welcome @spetty

As @usaf_pride and @VorlonFrog notes - you want to be very cautious with those cameras as they are Chinese Market cameras and thus may have hacked firmware to support English and other Languages.

I'm assuming that 3.2.1.404565 is the web version, and the software version is 2.420.0000.22.R, Build Date: 2016-12-09. If that's the case you do not have chinese firmware hacked to english, but rather international firmware hacked to run on chinese market hardware. I'm running this version and it overall works just as well as what I have on the international market cameras. There is no feasible upgrade version that I'm aware of.
