Avoid this piece of junk.. Have had 2 fail on me in the past year. Each lasted a few months.

Anyone have suggestions on 8 port gigabit switches..

I'm gonna try the TP Link

Did you contact netgear? They should have a 3 year "Limited warranty"

Will a managed switch act as an unmanaged plug and play right out of the box with more options if wanted

Yes. With the caveat that some managed switches come with fixed ip addresses that can be an issue if it matches another device on the network.

Also note that I have seen zyxel switches come with poe mode set to classification mode, this will reserve 15w for each device regardless of the actual draw, resulting in not being able to power all your connected devices, it must be changed to consumption mode. This seems to have been resolved in newer firmware but I'll just throw it out there.

I have a Cisco SF200E-24/P managed switch which was basically plug and play. Its been 100% reliable and operating with an NVR in a temp range of 32 - 37c day in day out. Its also not in the cleanest environment dust wise but has never once failed me over more than 6 years.

It was costly but I dont regret and I will keep it running in parallel while I upgrade to BI and a new Dahua set up.

you checked the switch power supplies, right? I've had power supplies go bad, but not (yet) a bad netgear switch...

I have been running tp-link unmanaged metal housing switches for several years mostly 8 port models. Timex of cheap routers.
