Hi folks! I am having real problems trying to get my skycam to FTP to Wunderground. When I go to test the FTP I get FTP: 530 Login authentication failed. The information I have on the FTP page is:

Description: SKYCAM

Preset: User Defined

Server address: webcam.wundergroound.com

Port: 21

Base folder /

Login: Here is where one of my problems exists. What goes in this box?

Password: I assume that it is the wunderground.com login password?

Idle Disconnect: 90 sec

Max connection: 5

Options: Check mark in Passive transfer mode. No other check marks

Port Range is: 1024 49191

Welcome, the short story is that WU webcam servers are not working correctly. It's not a fault on your end. It's been this way for months. Your login should be the name of the webcam such as trixieCAM1. And yes, password is the password you use to loginto WU.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have been struggling with this stuff for 4 days now. Before WU changed over the the new system, my site worked just fine. When they changed over everything went nuts. I had some camera problems and got new cameras and in Blue Iris they work just fine. But when I went to FTP my new skycam, that is when all the WU problems started. I kind of thought I had everything set up correctly and you proved it. Thanks for getting back to me. I'll keep plugging away till I get something to work.

I have a wunderground cam set up to have them pull the image off my web server, and it seems to still be working properly. Just in case that is an option for you. I know it is more complicated to set up and maintain your own web server to host the image from.

Well right now, WU is off line. What else is new. I think they have a bunch of college students working there like they have at our NOAA weather radar in State College, Pa. Any time there is severe weather coming, the damned radar goes down. Just when you need it too!!

The Doppler radars have lots of maintenance issue's. And most of them are still using regular old POTS lines to transmit their data. So, more times than not, the phone line has a problem preventing the data from being distributed.
There are also issue's when there are wide spread severe events that the NOAA mainframe ingesting the data, can't keep up with all of the viewing requests. The forecasters do the best they can with what they have. Some of the equipment they are using for ingesting Radar at the local forecast office, is 25-30 years old. The local offices can't order toilet paper without written prior approval. Our government at work.

WU, while not a governmental entity, seems to be operating as if it is. The FTP problem has been ongoing since they "upgraded" the site. I think they're having problems deciding between a Commodore 64 or an IBM 8086 for their FTP server. I've been checking, every day, hoping thing get back to what passes for normal over there, but no such luck after a month. Make some popcorn, sit back, relax and wait...and wait...and wait. If it's any consolation, they're, WU, is aware of the problem and have been aware of it for weeks now.

Well, I am 71 years young and physically handicapped so going through this setup is a chore for me. The hands don't work very well and the mind is going south forever. So any help I can get is really appreciated.

Unfortunately, at this point, nothing will help short of WU fixing the problem on their end. If something happens, something positive, I'll make it a point to post here.

Given that WU is now an IBM company, I think it's more a lack of interest. They still get all the free weather data they could ever use so it doesn't matter much if FTP works or even the user pages work to them.

@trixie The latest from WU is that they are working on the problem. The root of the problem is password corruption and since a camera, or most automated FTP upload solutions, can't handle an inquiry when things go wrong, it's taking them some extended time to get things going again. They did reference that the hardware that had been in use was rather old, maybe 20 years which in computer terms is a few centuries, and so full of dust and crud they had to make the move before something went seriously wrong.

The cameras using a URL, from a website, are working but the FTP cameras will be back when they get the login problems resolved. Time frame is indeterminate. Patience is a virtue so try to be virtuous is all I can say.

+1^^.

@trixie, please be aware that you're facing an uphill battle to FTP squat directly to WU. I gave up and instead FTP an image from my flag cam to a folder on my own web site using Blue Iris every 5 minutes, then tell WU to get that image (as a URL) from my web site every 10 minutes. It's been working for 6 months now like a charm.

Well after being in the hospital for brain surgery (acute subdural hematoma) I got home and decided to see if the ftp was working. Should of stayed in the hospital. I guess I'll just to have patience but that is starting to wear thin.

Wow... Glad you're back with us!
If it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one who's been having a hard time with WU, in the past, now and likely tomorrow.

See if you can find a free site that will give you a page you can FTP an image from BI to at the desired interval then have WU go to that URL to fetch it. A nice, hi-res image will be far less than 200K, a pretty small file.

As I mentioned in post #12 above, I gave up on FTP'ing directly to WU.

Good luck and again, glad you made it through your surgery OK.

Filezilla is a great FTP program but unless there's an update since I last used it, it won't perform a scheduled FTP as will Blue Iris.
  • Create a web page with username and password in order to FTP to it.
  • Have BI FTP your image on a schedule or frequency.
  • Log into WU and configure it to fetch that image, using the same URL that you would view it with your browser, such as :
Code:
http://mywebsite/weathercam/BI_image.jpg
AND....

Never heard of it and when I google it it says its a search engine.
Jeez...just go to Google and look for "free web sites"

There are a ton of them that's for sure. I'll work with Filezilla tomorrow. Out of pee and vinegar now. Mowed grass and ran to Wally World for drugs and other stuff.
