Hello I am new here and I have a couple of questions.

I am looking for a good small dome PTZ which does not look inconspicuous. I was looking at Dahua and Hikvision but then something crossed my mind. As these are dome shaped cameras wouldn't dirt on the dome area be a problem over long periods of time? I live in a dusty area due to nearby construction work. So I am afraid that the dust will not wash away when it rains. It is not a large amount of dust, but I am gathering that over time it will accumulate to levels where the camera's performance will suffer until the dome is cleaned.

So I would like to ask the community, how do you go about cleaning dome camera? How many times per year do you perform the task? Do you use special fluids to clean the dome and do you use a cleaning fluid that will make rain water run off the dome without leaving rain tracks?

Cheers

I’d be more afraid of getting water inside, so I’d use a hand squeeze pump with as pure water as I can get, like R/O water, or purchased distilled water. Then spray a lot to wash dirt off and wipe with soft cloth.
My exposed PTZ’ s get rain washed and my under eaves domes haven’t been cleaned in two years.

I would think you'd be able to just gently hose off the outside of the dome a few times a year if they need it. They are made to withstand storms. Keeping the inside of the dome clean is critical, as the IR will reflect off of the dust. At least twice a year, I have to open up my cameras, dump out the dead bugs, and clean the inside of the dome. My camera manufacturer is Dericam, and they recommend water or alcohol.
