Mods, this has a few questions regarding NVR's as well so it needs moved or deleted just let me know.

Hello IP Cam Talk!

Planning out my first install for my own home, and have a few questions:

From what I have read I think I want to go dahua from andy on this site. I'm leaning toward just buying a DVR and not messing around with a PC and blueiris or milestone.
I am currently looking at teh NVR4208-8P-4kS2 as the NVR, and a few questions.

1. Does this system work well with apps on android for internal viewing? (not worried about external - just local network) I would like to setup a tablet or something for my wife to view the cams easy.
2. I know it has 8 POE ports, but is it possible to add more cameras with a seperate POE switch? Or would I be better just getting the NVR4216-16P-4K?

I think I am going to start with 3-4 cameras. I mainly want to cover the driveway and the front and rear doors. I was originally under the understanding that domes were best for outside because it was hard for them to be turned/moved etc, but the more I read up on that, it seems that that is not the case. Maybe Turret? Not sure what is the best camera for soffit installation to look at doors. Budget on cams in around 125ish, but flexible if its worth it.

Any help would be great, and in the meantime i'll keep doing some research, and see what I can find.
Thanks!

1. there are several apps that will work on android
2. No, it won't work that way. 8 = 8. Get the dahua 5216-16-4ks2 version (non P) and get a POE switch. The 5216 has much more horsepower than the 4216.

For your budget, look at the 2231. few less options than the 5231, but a solid camera.

Welcome @mikeylikesit5805

Concur with bigredfish and usaf_pride.. if you're going with the NVR, get the NVR5216 model rather than the NVR4216 ( more powerful ).

Turret form factors are well liked by members, and the IPC_HDW2231 turrent varifocal Dahua OEM 2MP starlight camera is well regarded.

Ok sounds pretty straight forward. Would you guys get this equipment from Andy? I will look at getting the 5216nvr with the 2231's.

Also WD purple drives correct? and any well regarded POE switches?

Many of us have bought it from Andy because he's the forum's vendor/sponsor and is generally popular here. I had a problem with a recent order but he was responsive. Andy is also a regular on the forums so you can reach him via IM or post on his profile page if he's busy...

Note the posters above are Dahua posters - there's also a Hikvision section - some of the mods might know more about that but for the budget and Dahua crowd, 2231 is getting popular. Note you may want to check one out on youtube or elsewhere first what it looks like - they're not small devices or the best looking, but solid well priced products and Andy has a few in stock if you're interested. Just message him at @EMPIRETECANDY

Yes WD purple drives

@Giomania has a whole thread on POE switches - too many to choose from; fenderman seems to like Zyxel; others Netgear; others TP link and lower cost option is BV

Here it is: PoE Switch Suggestion List

Alright Everyone, this is where I am at, let me know your thoughts.

WD Purple Drive - 4TB - Amazon 107.00
TP Link POE TL-SG1016PE 130.00
PFA130-E3 x $14.00$ 42.00 (mounts)
IPC-HDW2231R-ZS3 x $124.00$ 372.00 (cams)
NVR5216-4KS21 x $265.00$ 265.00 (NVR)

Minus CAT5/6 can you think of anything else I will need to get, or see any blatant errors?

You should also get micro-sd cards for the camera. If the NVR gets knocked out, it will still be recorded on the camera and vice versa. Plenty of threads here on what is a good quality card.
