hi everyone

My clean install windows 10 machine has previously been running blue iris flawlessly and still does, with low cpu usage and no excessive ram usage. However it shuts down unexpectedly approx once every 3 months, the log doesn’t show anything unusual, just states unexpected shutdown.

I have disabled windows defender from the group policy editor for anything related to blue iris including ‘processes’ too.

What could it be?

Thanks

That reply was super quick! No I haven’t, I’ll launch it no problem, but anything in particular I need to locate/look for?

Thanks

Only blue iris, it quits once every 3 months. Do you think there are too many errors on that log per day? Seems like a lot! The windows system doesn’t ever crash.

But I was infected with malware in Dec last year because I installed a horrible installer version of ImgBurn. I had to manually remove the malware registry entries etc. Windows Defender was then enabled and I scanned the whole system and it’s saying it’s ok. But I’m thinking I may need to do clean install again? I never used to enable Windows Defender Live Scan as I knew it was just for Blue Iris, but since that infection it’s always been enabled

definitly do a clean install and use the latest BI release. How much cpu are you using? how old is the pc?

Ok thanks, CPU is only at 13%. Hardware acceleration enabled

Intel Core i5 4590 3.3Ghz
8GB ram

Blue iris uses about 1.5GB ram, ram free on the system is about 2.5GB.

Intel HD4600 Graphics

I’ve had Blue Iris on this for 2 years, no problems at all in the past...

If you had malware then I’d personally rebuild it from scratch, some malware can appear to be gone but it may have mangled other files as part of the install so unless you know exactly what it does when it installs it can be difficult to reverse.

Does anyone think I should securely erase the hard drive first with a bootable utility like Parted Magic to ensure all malware destroyed? Or is deleting all partitions in the windows setup good enough?

Great thanks, that’s what I’ve always done, but I was reading an installation guide and they advised secure erase, which I thought was a bit overkill.

Ok i’ve had the system up and running now with the latest Blue Iris and latest Windows 10 Pro build (clean install). Computer is running faster too now, a lot more responsive, even with conventional HDD.

Do you I think I should re-install RealVNC server on it? Its a fantastic piece of VNC that allows me to control the PC in the event of any problems with Blue Iris.

Thanks
