Hi everyone.

So finally all the kit has arrived. Special thanks to Andy for the Cams.

I am definitely going to take your advice @bp2008 and @SouthernYankee and take it slowly and logically.

So first things first. As said I have a Dell PC. This came with an SSD already installed and windows pro loaded onto the SSD. I have now installed the separate HDD.

Do you recommend a fresh install on the SSD or carry on as is? It is a brand new PC, so I know there is nothing else on there.

Once this is done then I'll move to the next step....

If you ever do install fresh, I recommend you disconnect all drives except the one you are installing on; otherwise Windows has a long history of putting critical system files on some other drive and you run the risk of having your bootup sequence be dependent on two drives.

Ok...so far...

Windows 10 pro fresh install on SSD
Blue Iris loaded on SSD
Seagate SkyHawk 10TB HDD installed

Questions which were previously asked:

1) what is the ip address of the BI PC - 192.168.0.44
2) what is the ip address of your router - 192.168.0.1
3) what is the make/model of your modem/router - Currently using Sky Router - Have Asus AC3100 DSL-AC88U router ready to have VPN installed and connected.
4) on your router what is the IP range of the DHCP pool ? if you can not fighue this out, we will get it later - If I think I understand it is 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254

I have not yet connected one of the cameras. Should I do this once I setup the 2nd router with VPN, or should I do that later?

What should I do next?

so as @SouthernYankee suggested, the last stage was to connect a camera to the POE switch for test and configuration.

Now when connected, do I then follow Cliff's Notes for setting up a Dahua camera for the first time? Or is there something else I should be doing?

1 - download and install tool box:
Software/Dahua Toolbox - Dahua Wiki

--link to download tool box directly:
https://dahuawiki.com/images/Software/Dahua_Toolbox/Dahua_ToolBox_Eng_V1.02.1.T.20170314.zip

2 - open tool box you just installed and click/install ConfigTool found inside the tool box program

3- inside ConfigTool you can detect cameras and setup password/ip etc.

And if you want to use SmartPSS to view camera download it from tool box. The SmartPSS on the Duhua Wiki is an OLDER version as they never updated the link.

Right....Update so far and challenges so far:

Installed Dahua Toolbox, config tool and SmartPSS.

I disabled the internet from PC, but could not find camera in config tool.
Connected the Internet, and immediately found the Camera

Then tried to enter the web interface 192.168.1.108, but was not connecting
Ran SmartPSS, and found camera, and live view available

I have now disconnected everything. I am awaiting a new router as the Asus I ordered was not able to be flashed for OpenVPN, so new one on order.

What am i getting wrong here, as from reading the notes, the camera should not be communicating via the net?

Am I missing something?

Your DHCP pool 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254.

Your camera 192.168.1.108.

What is your PC IP? Your PC has to be on same subnet as camera to talk to it. Is it a managed POE switch ?
