Andy recently sent me 4 IPC-HFW8232E-ZEs (Dec 2017 firmware). I love 'em, but SSA is intermittent or doesn't work at all. When it works, SSA is fantastic (see Nayr's night time and daytime photos using SSA in his review of this camera).

I had SSA on for each of the cameras, but it disengages at some point (goes to off). And then it's attempt after attempt to find the right settings combo to get it to reengage. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I've factory reset each of the four cameras two different ways: once by leaving the camera powered and holding the reset button down for about 30 seconds. And again by pressing/holding the reset while applying power and holding for about two mins or so. None of it helped.

There must be some required key settings to get it to come on and stay on, but I haven't found it. I've tried combinations of IR, White Balance, Anti-flicker, etc., no joy.

Any help? Thanks!

I have been testing that function myself for a tricky camera placement, depending on the sun, the clouds and lighting it will drastically change on and off to adjust for scene changes. I have not deployed the camera yet in that area but I did do some testing and it seemed to hold pretty well. That function was only available on the professional dahua models but seems to work well with my 2mp starlight IPCHDW5231RZE . The function was not in the stock firmware but I was alerted by @looney2ns and I upgraded and it works well. Perhaps a firmware upgrade or downgrade might work.

Thank you c hris527--I should have put my post in the IPC-HFW8232E-ZE thread.
I have some IPC HDW5231RZEs...what is the firmware you installed to get SSA to work on them? I'm currently using the following with no SSA:

System Version 2.622.0000000.31.R, Build Date: 2018-08-13
WEB Version V3.2.1.616707
ONVIF Version 16.12(V2.4.3.574996)

I have deployed the camera in the area in question, "Quote from the Department head" This picture is nothing short of Amazing".. The SSA function will only kick on when its Sunny out and lightens up the scene so they can see beyond a Glass Door. They just needed to see who was behind the Door to buzz them in. The Down side is when It changes scene it will pretty much causes the skipping or choppy effect both live and recording. All in all its doing what its suppose to do and a BIG Improvement over the 10 year analog system they had.
