Hello again everyone.. I'm starting my 3rd system build and am trying to understand more of the technical stuff to keep improving on my system designs.

I have 11, QTN8037BC cameras. When I log into the camera itself under the video tab it shows main stream
2048x1536 3MP4:3
15FPS
bitrate CBR
Bitrate Kbps 4096
iframe interval 15
video H264.

I have 1 Dahua PTZ 4x zoom 2mp
1920x1080 @24.7 FPS
FPS 25
CBR
Bit Rate 4096
Iframe 25

Total 12 cams

Is there an easy formula to figure storage and how much a system can handle. I have been looking at the chart of systems and how the compare but is there a formula to figure this as well. Also if anyone has any other technical data they use to plan out systems I'd be interested in that as well.

System
i7 6700
16 GB ram
120ssd
8tb WD Purple HD
Price $390 June 2018 ebay I also added the ssd and 8tb purple drive to this after the fact

This is the last system build I did and its working great.
CPU is at a steady 36% using all the tweaks to optimize BI that I found in the Wiki pages
Ram is at 5.51G

The new system Im thinking that I want to give him all ptz's like the Dahua up top. I like that they can home themselves after a certain time so it gives the client the flexibility to be able to look around with each camera for closer inspections and not have to worry about putting them back to the static home position. The new system is also going to have more cameras maybe up to 20 and I would like to jump them up from 2mp to maybe 4 mp on at least some of them. They are going in a bar so they have to work well in darker situations. I like the Dahua that I currently have in another bar because I have it staying color and the picture looks great. I've been reading some of the current posts and I'm trying to get the best current system for a reasonable price like the one above and also I'm looking for links to some Dahua PTZ's that might be current that people are happy with in the 2 to 4 mp range with a 4x zoom. The one I had up top was about $150 on amazon which is where I'll probably look for the new cams but thought I'd see what you guys had to say first. Maybe a couple static dahua's as well if there are some good recommendations.

Really looking forward to this build as I'm laying everything out and planning the build versus bit by bit. I just love this software. Thanks again for the help I can supply more info if needed. And I'm taking notes.

I saw this system on ebay but it has a T after the 7700 and I thought that means that its not as good. Is this correct thinking?

HP Slimline Desktop Intel Core i7-7700T 12GB 1TB Hard Drive

Bid is $250

Links to the cameras Im thinking about. Any thoughts on these?

Those cameras only have a 1/3" sensor. IMHO they will not be that good at night. I looked at the picture a reviewer posted and he seemed to think it was great. I guess he has not seen night pictures with say a starlight camera or a camera with a 1/1.8" sensor.

So what is the the 1/1.8 sensor doing that the 1/3 sensor is not and how do they compare in price? Can you post a link please of a camera you would recommend? I am very open to trying new products out for testing and comparing. And Thank you for the post this is exactly the kind of information I want to learn. The second link I have posted above has a 1/2.7 number for the sensor on a 2MP camera. Does that put it above the 4 MP camera with the 1/3 as well?

You need to read the cliff notes.. and start reading the threads on the low light cameras... Forget about the 1/3 sensor cameras...

My process for recommending a CPU is to calculate the total megapixels per second (MP/s), then, roughly,

0-500 MP/s - 3rd-7th gen i5 desktop CPU (4 cores)
500-800 MP/s - 3rd-7th gen i7 desktop CPU (4 cores + hyperthreading) or 8th-9th gen i5 desktop CPU (6 cores)
800-1100 MP/s - i7-8700 (6 cores + hyperthreading) or i7-9700 (8 cores) or the K edition of either
1100-1500 MP/s - i9-9900K
1500+ MP/s - Then it varies, maybe a high end threadripper or Intel HEDT CPU, or consider a different VMS than Blue Iris.

I've just pasted this into the wiki article on choosing hardware for Blue Iris.

Does that cam even have IR for nightvision?

I just want to say that I'm am researching at the same time. LOL I knew when I posted this fenderman would say to read and I completetly agree and am. The info is out there my friend just put me under the gun to get a system set up for him finally and I was looking for pointers on top of my research to hear what you guys have to say. I Promise you Im reading but sometimes hearing it from different perspectives helps in ways you can't imagine. I've learned a ton from all of you in the past. Just wanted to throw that out there. Don't want you guys thinking I'm lazy or anything.

Interesting setup. Have you used HP Slimline Desktop before? Most like towers or some SFF. How is spacing to add NVMe and Purple HD. I will watch your thread to see how it goes.

Yes listen to fenderman... he has saved me a lot of time, money and headaches. I do agree with what you mean about "just" reading though. I went through the cliff notes twice and daily and always pickup on something. I feel it is almost like reading a textbook and then a teacher explaining it. When someone confirms what you read and shows example of their setup it clicks and gives you more confidence in doing it yourself. For example when I was learning about the sensors I made a mistake thinking the same sensor on a 8MP and 2MP will be the same but they are very different due to the MP....

No I haven't used one a slimline before. I was wondering about the space as well but the last one I built was a small form factor and fitting the WD purple in wasn't an issue using the SSD with it. I just took the original HD out and replaced it with the WD purple. The SSD I slid in where could. I think I might try to find a bigger option to go with this time though as I believe this client will want to add storage later on as he ads cameras.
