I wanted to first share my findings of a great free resource for camera planning. I am in the process of figuring out what Hikvision cameras that I want to get and where to place them. Since I already had modeled my house using Sketchup, I happen to come across a free plugin that will show the camera FoV and also see the view as seen through the camera. Since this plugin is for AXIS cameras, I had to find cameras that would have close FoV of the cameras that I want to get.

http://classic.www.axis.com/techsup/system_design_tools/camera_extension/

I am looking to get a 8 or 16 channel Hikvision NVR (non-poe), poe switch, and about 4 or 5 cameras. I want to try to have coverage of the doors, cars, and windows. The hard decision now is to figure out which cameras and lens sizes to get. I am thinking about getting a DS-2CD2332-I, DS-2cd2532-I (possibly with audio) for above the door. Any benefits to using other camera types? Anyone have any suggestions on placements?

@fx72 Very cool..thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum.
The 2332 does not support audio (im assuming its a typo because you listed it twice)..
The 2532IS is a great front door camera because its compact, has built in mic and the weaker ir is generally not an issue for the front door area.....though if you prefer using an external mic the 2132F-IS is the way to go, however, it is larger..

That was a typo... I was thinking of the DS-2cd2532 for the door.

Yes that is a perfect door camera...note you need the -IS model for to get the audio...
If you intend to add a speaker make sure to run an extra ethernet cable so you can power the speaker or something else like a pir sensor in the future

I like that house model! I should do that!

I personally have a lot of 2032 (bullet model) because they are one of the cheapest and most compact, and very easy to mount and aim. And also because they were one of the first models readily available as rebrands from places like Costco. The 2332 is in some respects a better general-purpose camera because the IR is slightly separate from the lens so there may be a little less bug activity. That has certainly held true for the one 2332 I have. Never had a bug problem on it, but most of the other cams get spider webs all the time.

DS-2CD2532F-IS is what I have above my front door.

It is perhaps not the best place to put a cam, so high above someone's head, but it works for me.

I know I'm a little late to say it but this is real cool. Nice job using Sketchup!
