Not sure if you are still looking but you should look at the T5442TM-AS.
It is the 5231 but upgraded to 4MP.
IMHO the 5231 is still king of the hill. That cam has a long way to go and no varifocal. Put that cam in the 5231 housing with a varifocal lens and dial in firmware and now you have a winner.

Don’t need varifocal if you when what lens and coverage you need. It also has smaller housing and footprint than 5231, which is better.
I received my 5442 a few days ago and have been doing side by side comparisons with the 5231.
Below is an example, the 5442 is better than the 5231, you can probably guess which is the 5442. I have a few more examples. It will get even better with firmware updates. Night better, higher resolution, and you can get more in vision with the better sensor.9560FC92-7B15-4D1E-A211-CC8A88C8C2B0.png 66485261-3E2C-4CDC-B3C9-68108B550B04.png

I tested with the IR off on both models and the 5442 blew the 5231 away. I've been trying to figure out which setting I changed because I don't think it should be like that.

To each their own glad you are happy.

IMHO in the Dahua lineup the IPC-HFW8232E-Z is the king of the hill. However it does cost more than the 5231. In the Hikvision lineup I like the DS-2CD5A26G0. Again more money so you have to shop towards what you can afford.

Still shots in no way tell the whole story.
You have a lot of IR reflections going on from the fence and soffit, that will affect both cameras exposure to the negative.

Yes, and if only there was a place where the Dahua lineup was identified that’s not 2-3 years old and where I don’t have to read 1000 pages and hire a consultant to answer, “what’s new”. From what I can tell from two hours of reading the 5231 is still superior at night that it has no equal. My question is simple...
