Does IR light do anything for a camera in forced color mode?

After recent neighborhood break ins I added two of these above the garage doors to try and improve night captures and use forced color mode. I am still working on getting the settings figured to reduce the blur and increase sharpness but one thing i do notice is that anything outside of the immediate light coverage (side walk, someone standing on the side of the car that is in shadow) is very dark.

New LED's are very bright, one of the cars is white, so it is probably difficult for camera to deal with the scene contrast, but i was wondering if "dark" parts of the image could benefit from having an IR light pointed at them? (i am trying to avoid adding more white light due to pollution into neighbors yard)

Using Dahua 5231R-ZE from Andy.

I'll try getting some images posted, but for a reference scene is very close to bigredfish post in We had a thief.. And now I want a better system

So, if you add IR light and the camera is in color mode, it won't help at all? IR is only good, in B/W mode?
