Is there any easy way for a Raspberry Pi to communicate with Blue Iris?
Depends on what you are looking to do. I know there are several threads of people using a Pi as a remote viewer/display for their cameras. I believe that BI supports MQTT protocol so you may be able to do some automations that way if you install MQTT on the Pi - I’m not versed in the capabilities of BI in that regard yet.

I have one setup as a remote file storage, runs backup every night pictures and docs. It is connected to a USB HHD in my gun safe. I have 2 others setup to run OSMC (KODI). Stream media from my Synology DS918+.

I'm very interested in this, what are you using? Can you give me a few details, please?

I used to play with the raspberry pi camera modules, but they really aren't very good compared to a proper IP camera.
Agreed. I was shocked how poor the pi camera module performs especially outdoors.

I'm prototyping a video intercom doorbell using pi zero. It's actually a nice cheap platform but I may change to armbian friendlyarm nanopi duo 2 or nanopi neo core 2 for deployment. Limiting factor is stuffing the electronics into a slightly over-sized lighted rectangular doorbell button, analog sound to digital (none on the pi), adequate heat dissipation, and stability of the underlying file system.

Kind of late to the party but I'm using a single RPi to run multiple applications. I started with Piehole which is awesome and then added PIVPN because my Google wifi does not support VPN. PIVPN combined with OpenVPN and IPCT's DDNS provides me with secure remote access to everything on my home network. I recently added multiple instances of homebridge so that I could combine my Hubitat home automation, BI cameras and Apple's Homekit into a single iOS app. I found that a single instance of Homebridge supports up to 147 devices so I ended up having to run 3 instances to handle all my HA devices.

I think I have 5 in total.
And old 2 basically as a temp sensor, need to replace it.
And 2b as a ups monitoring machine and has shairport on it (airplay server)
Another 2b with flightradar and planefiner on it.
A 3 with docker running tt-rss and a bunch of media apps
A 3b+ (new today) that I'll run unifi for my network and portainer and caddy (caddy does ssl cert and reverse proxying). This will manage all my docker hosts (I have abut 5 of these with various services in each)

I have one running Heatermeter to control an RC servo damper/fan on the intake of my charcoal Kamado, with 4 temperature probes. Holds the temperature rock steady at 225 and allows me to check the smoker temp and meat temp while out running around town.

One Pi 3B+ running as a digital picture frame. I dropped the Blue Iris UI3 browser stuff because it bogged down too much. Two Pi Zero W as daylight sensors feeding Home Assistant. Will soon shift those to ESP32 devices instead. Started running Home Assistant on a Pi 3B+ and moved it over to an Intel i3 NUC. Two Pi 3B+ with amp hats running Volumio in the living room and master bedroom. Still need to consider setting up Pi-Hole.

What software?
A project another user @Dasstrum posted here. I'm attaching my scripts, somewhat slimmed/trimmed down from his originals. You'll need a Raspberry Pi, Debian Linux, an SD Card, an LCD screen and controller card, and a little bit of wiring and Linux scripting and Python experience.
