Caught some door checkers last week and finally getting around to posting it. These guys got into at least one pick up that night. Gave some video to the police. Luckily my doors were locked.

Still need to tweak settings/lighting to get a better facial pic. Any help on settings is appreciated.

First things first, disinfect the door handles. I'm sure that scratching as he walked away was not the first of the evening.
The video is good. More light always helps.
He's scratching his &*%$^ as he walks up. I'm sure the video from the 4mp one is enough to allow law enforcement to identify him if he has priors. The still might be another matter.

I know Fender will jump on me for this one, as to him running commercial systems, recording space is everything, but for me as a private individual, this is where I think a little less compression would help with getting better stills, and yes, more white light! I'd try to get an LED flood with maybe a PIR detecting right out in the road so the camera has time to acclimatise to the light switching on before he comes into shot. The other alternative is a permanent light on but it's not a very green or wallet friendly solution. Whichever route you choose, go for an LED as they're brighter, whiter and use only a fraction of the juice.

Yes, I did clean the door handles! Local police said they recognize the guy. He is wearing sunglasses in his v-neck that he took from a pickup a few blocks away.

Adding additional white light here is planned.

How would I go about this? Not sure what you mean. I am recoding to BI in Blue Iris BVR, direct-to-disc. When I exported the MP4 file, I had '2 pass for fast-open' checked and did NOT check 'Re-encode to H.264/AAC using profile'.

It was more of an observational comment on bit rate and compression vs stills quality. Increasing the light levels here by floodlighting will increase the quality in any event by reducing the electronic gain in dark areas such as his face.
