Anyone using SPF -> RJ45 adapters?

A few of the 8 port managed switches that interest me, those supporting SNMP, all come with SFP uplink ports. I have seen some adapters, and wonder if anyone here has used them successfully?

Alternatively, if anyone knows of a 8-port, SNMP capable PoE switch with 1GB RJ45 uplink, I'd love to hear about it.

If you mean SFP I use them on my Ubiquiti 8-150 switch. They work great.

If a total of 8 ports including the 'uplink' port is enough the Ubiquity US-8-60W should fit the bill. It does have snmp if I'm correct. Also comes in 150W version and there's also a 16 port.

I was under the impression that uplink ports are mostly a thing of the past, afaik most modern switches auto-detect the wiring (an uplink port is just a port with the wires crossed so you don't need a cross cable). In essence that means that on such a switch any port can be used as an uplink port. Some switches do have a separate SFP uplink port (or just an RJ45 one) capable of trasmitting at, say, 10Gbit/s instead of 1Gbit/s as for the other regular ports for instance.

You may already know all of this of course. Also, I don't consider myself a network expert, far from it.

Those look good. I need 8 PoE , so that means moving up to a 12 or 16 port if I cannot use the uplink to connect to the other switch/router. That's the main reason for going down that route. FWIW, these HP 2520 8G's, going for around USD 120 look like just the thing, and from reading here and elsewhere the build quality is supposed to be quite good, so buying used is not typically seen as an issue. The 100Mbps version is even cheaper, around $50, including the power supply.

Out of interest how are you going to use snmp ? Do you have it configured to report back to a central systems manager or similar?

The Ubiquiti 8-150 gives you a total of 10 ports. I use one of the SFP's from the USG and the second feeds another 8-150.

That's the long-term goal. I'm learning to program again, and figured a real-world example is the best way to do so. Not terribly difficult if you use the right programming library.
