By the way, you are using different settings for Day/Night using the "Schedule" profile right? You will need different settings for daytime.

I'm interested in getting a LPR camera to record cars going in and out of a parking lot. There is only one driveway in and out of the parking lot, so it seems like it would be good to cover that entrance and record the license plates. I measured it as 162 feet to the entrance and the entrance driveway is 29 feet wide, so the IPVM calculator shows that as 67 PPF with this camera. In order to enter the parking lot they need to make a right turn, and I would record them at that point, so they would need to be going pretty slow in order to turn. Does it seem reasonable that I should be able to pull off LPR with this camera here? Thanks!

@looney2ns I have a client use Lechange NVR and the current firmware is 2017.( The model is listed as NK168P083-NVR and the firmware has not been updated since purchase.

The B/W mode refers to Black and White (Night vision). In B/W mode all IR LEDs on the camera should turn on. I can't control each LED individually. )
Could you please test it on your NVR for this?

If I correctly understand the question, Each LED cannot be controlled individually, only as a group. The NVR wouldn't change how this works.
All setup needs to be performed in the cameras web interface.

On the other, I have a hard time keeping focus even with switching schedule as above if I allow it to go to color, so I leave it in B&W 24/7. I do still switch schedule 45 in before/after sunset/sunrise

Completely changing subject but actually regarding the focus problems.

I've noticed that the latest firmwares the actual auto focus is constantly trying to adjust focus.

This morning I did a little test.
It's the first time for a while that weve had hot temps in the UK so the kids are out in the garden in the paddling pool. Washing on the line etc, so constant movement.

I was on the web gui page on the focus tab, (you dont see the next bit on the live view),

But what you can see is the actual continual refocus adjustment and the lock the camera is trying to get.

When it locks it goes red and focuses to that if its yellow it seems like it's trying to get a lock on that and continually focuses in and out in tiny steps which causes the image to look slightly out of focus.

Now obviously I can see how this would effect focus massively during the night in B&W as it's a more subtle change.

There is now way other in the firmware to actually turn the auto focus off, which I think is a big oversight.

Theres the api commands which work and the sunset tool, but this can be cumbersome to some and if running only a nvr it's not possible.

Just an observation I've noticed today whilst doing a little testing

Probably yes. Angle of attack plays a big role as does speed of vehicle, and having enough IR on the plate.

Here's an example using an Overview camera right next to a Z12 for LPR at 120ft

(remember to switch youtube player to 1080p)

Looks very sharp, could you post some of setting for the night too? Thanks!

Thanks. How about your FPS, Bit Rate, I Frame Interval. Anything unique required in these settings?

I run max bitrate 8192 CBR and 30fps on all of my cameras, no reason not to. I frame matches FPS

Distance, angle, speed of vehicle, ambient light and your IR strength are all gonna make a difference. My settings may get you in the ballpark but you may have to tweak to your environment

Thanks you got me in the ballpark and day is working good. When you say I Frame matches FPS you mean both set at 30?

Night is going to be a struggle with my setup but will get there.

For event tracking do you use the zoomed in LPR camera for that also or just the overview? Finding it hard to track events using IVS Tripwire zoomed in that tight with the LPR Cam. Perhaps another setting like intrusion of fast moving?

Yes both 30

I use old fashioned Motion detection on the LPR camera and Tripwire on the Overview. The LPR cam is focused on such a tight spot that MD works fine, it does get plenty of false hits during a certain part of the day due to the sun and tree limb shadows, but I can always match to the Overview cam to find an event.
