Hi this morning I just got up and was reviewing footage from last night and I see a suspect going through my neighbors mailbox.

I would like to Thank to all of the IPCAMTALK community specially to bigredfish and looney2ns for suggesting me the right cameras and helping with configuration and guiding me to guides. Because of this I now have first suspect which I will be reporting to Local law enforcement and US Postal inspector. So Thank you everyone !!

The box has a slot for the mail. You only need to unlock it to retrieve the mail otherwise that would be one huge key chain for the mail man.

..and he have his pants down under the weight of keys!

So what cameras did you use?
This specific one is the Z12E. I set four of this so 2 is capturing plates and other is getting me general view of cars for overview at night but it is also pretty darn good as we can see for capturing faces at night. :D. I also have some Extra IR going. So it can help camera since I am on a dark street.

I just placed order last month for a SD5A445XA-HNR cant wait to see what that can do once it arrives :D Already have the older SD6Ce one and that one is also pretty darn excellent :D. So far reading through lot of stuff here and asking lot of questions and getting help from members like frenderman, looney, bigred & andy from techempire has been super helpful :D most of the questions you will have will be already posted here and just be ready to read through lot of stuff :D

Boggles my mind you guys seem to get frequent videos of people going through your mailboxes. I feel like we should add a new section called mailbox cameras to the forums so we can solve for this growing criminal element.

Yea, I think in our city we are seeing a lot more of this happening almost everynight .. And people are talking about it on nextdoor or ring app and stuff, I am thinking of installing some sort of new Post for the Mailbox and then try to hide camera within the post .. Anyone has any recommendation on post / what camera to use for this project ?

I would love to have both side view .. Can go with two or three camera.. within the post so say if they approach from either side of the walk way they be on it. or any better ideas ? I mean I think right now How it stands My overview got him already pretty darn good. I am already way too happy but I think I always end up designing system with over kill LOL i dont know why but again it is good to have redundancy .. if one camera misses other can fill in the blanks :D

Cockroach.....it's almost 3:00 AM. I'm sure he has to be up a couple of hours to go to work.....NOT!
Man, I agree with you these Idiots have nothing better to do in life. One night I had three idiots checking doors and went through my neighbors car. Unfortunately back then I did not have some of these cameras up. It is still an very active on going project for me so far I have about 15 cameras up .. and counting..

I don't know if it could be integrated with CCTV, but a camera such as the Mobius 1 might be good for this project as it's quite good in low light and at night and is the size of a matchbox. It also has a wide angle lens. It's more of an Radio Controlled Vehicle / Plane Camera, but is also used as a dashcam by some and can be used for web streaming. There is a later version the Maxi, however, especially if experimenting and unused to these cameras I'd steer away from the Maxi as it's very easy to brick which means a return to China every time!

The link is here, but again note, I'm unsure if these can be integrated with CCTV. They can be connected via a USB to a pc and used as a webcam and also powered over USB, so it might be possible to get BI to recognise these, however, that is beyond my knowledge as is the protocol they use. The downloadable manual simply says when attached to the pc windows will automatically install web cam drivers.

Mobius 1080P HD Action Camera

Sample video from Youtube in so far as it can be trusted as a source (used as dashcam):

BTW if you go with these, you need a high quality power delivery designed USB cable (not just a plain data cable) otherwise you can damage the cameras for lack of full power. I'm guessing for the distance involved this might involve a USB amplifier.

Some advice on long runs here, although I'm not endorsing the store, just posting their info on how to extend products:
