Best Implementation For NVR

I have been working on my camera layout and models for some time and gotten great advice from Andy on ideas on how to place the cameras. I will initially have 8 cameras.

I am down to the NVR and need some input/ideas. I have a central network closet where I will have a POE switch. I want to be able to view the camera output/replay on my television in the other room and have a network connection at that location. I have read about using a laptop but found that this is not recommended and full size workstation is to big.

As I look at a NVR for this I don’t need the port on the NVR but I do need good speed through the IP port into the system. I have read that some systems have issues recognizing cameras with this type of setup and that latency can be a problem. Also that the output to the TV can be poor quality.

Has anyone implemented their system like this and what’s the ideas from everyone?

It sounds like you are convincing yourself that an NVR is not the solution for you.
Where did you read all those negatives?
With such a wide range of models and brands, any such generalisations will be true and not true, and they certainly won't help selection decisions.

There is a great deal of practical user experience on NVRs and other solutions on the forum - fact-based.
Take some time to check them out.

I actually have convinced myself that I do need a NVR. I can't find which NVR will provide the be the best solution. I have looked at Hikvision and Dahau NVRs and OEM no brand. What I haven't found discussed is when the local ports on the NVR aren't used and a POE switch is used.

The choice of PoE ports on a switch or NVR is mainly determined by the required topology of the Ethernet cabling.
The switch can be located where it's convenient, and a single uplink cable run from it.
The NVR may have some location constraints if the VGA/HDMI interface is used.

Remember to run extra network drops to the TV / media center - imho I like to drop at least 3 there.

If you are already getting a separate PoE switch consider a PC running VMS software. ( for Dahua cameras you can run SmartPSS, you can also run Blue Iris - windows PC i5/i7.. see the Blue Iris section. Blue Iris is well liked by members - you can try out the demo version for a test run )

For a Dahua NVR I would go with the Dahua NVR5216-16P-4KS2 / NVR5216-4KS2 if you are running Dahua OEM cameras.
Also keep an eye on the for sale section - sometimes members will sell their NVRs there.

( From a price / deal point you can find some good deals on used 4th gen PCs - so that is worth considering also imho )
