Thank you!! really appreciated. I'm currently connecting 3 cams but will be added 2 or so more at some point (Once i have enough money and fix my infrastructure with BI etc.)

by Push notifications i mean event alerts on mobile (emails are too slow for me and the event is gone by the time they are received - i like to know when someone has entered my property at that moment). I currently have the gDmss plus and vpn setup - even if i'm not connected to the vpn i will get push notifications for events popup, i can then connect to VPN and view the video or pictures of the event.

I will look out for this pcs, thank you so much for the help again!
gDmss is going through a server in China first isn't it? BI is going from computer to you on network so it should be quicker. I wonder if there is any lag time between alerts. I don't know from experience with both but thought I throw the question out there.

This is a nicely priced POE switch if you only have 3 cams now and adding 2 later:

The hardest part sometimes is just getting it all together. Once I had my computer, POE switch and learned how to setup dual NIC I was up and running in a day. Look how to optimize BI:

For your setup you might be able to get an older generation intel:

A quick bit of advice required by me too..

I have a dahua nvr and looking at switching to BI... The one thing blocking me is the mobile push notifications.

My dahua app and nvr work fine but there's always room to make it better hence switching to bi but the mountain I have to climb is high. My nvr has built in poe so looking at having to switch everything out completely.

So 2 questions for me:
The bi app on ndrood has a lot of negative feedback saying it really doesn't work... Is that a load of trash? Or is there another way you guys get push notifications to android?

Alot of people are mentioning sff pcs, which is exactly what I'm finding here in the UK but most I have seen dont support 3.5in drives, are there any particular models that do work with a 2.5in ssd for os and 3.5in for BI? I have a dell optiplex 3040 sff but no room for 3.5in drive.

Sorry for the lame noobs questions.
The push notifications work great and are much more custom than the dahua nvr, they can easily be turned off by schedule or manually. The app is excellent, the fools who bitch about it dont know what they are doing and instead of coming to a forum to learn what they are doing wrong, they complain in the reviews as if the purchase of a 10 dollar app provides them with free networking support for life. Both the dahua and BI app have the same rating in the app store, 4.1.
You can squeeze those drives into the dell sff, there are a bunch of threads on this. or look at an hp prodesk/elitedesk

No, that is not truthful. The mobile app is unusable, in practical terms (i.e. for a normal person who wants to use an app, not adopt a lifestyle).

It is complete garbage.

And not because of your strawman argument about networking - it's true that it provides no help for the networking challenges which is already unforgivable. (It requires either a VPN tunnel, or installing STunnel on the server, or opening/forwarding multiple ports. But with years of networking experience and/or hours of handholding they can all be resolved.)

No, it is complete garbage because IT FAILS AS AN APP. In every way, it is worse than using UI3. Of course you shouldn't use UI3 on mobile because it's...not meant for mobile and provides a horrible user experience. Well, the app is even worse.
The app is great you just don't know what the hell you're doing... I run over 20 blue Iris systems with at least 50 users with the mobile app...
You don't even explain the problems you're having... Instead of trashing the app you should tell us the problem so we can help you because you're obviously incompetent....
There are no networking issues with the app and the developer is not responsible for securing your network or providing you with a server to transmit your video. You're just ignorant.
perhaps you need to use a different VMS tell us how great it is and how great the mobile app is. Put your money where your big mouth is.

It is complete garbage.
IMO your whole post is garbage.
You made an account just to post that? Whats your real motivation?
If your genuinely having trouble with the app people would have been happy to help.
