i recently installed some 2mp cameras but only 1 on a mounting bracket the other 3 are directly screwed to the wall.
The problem I have is some washed out video I don’t know if it’s becouse there not mounted or if there just bad cameras or maybe just a setting in the 4204 I’m not doing.

How does one decide if a mount is needed or not?

Welcome @MikeADT

Curious what cameras are you using?

Also, do you work w/ADT products?

Thanks

Can’t see how a mount would make things better, looks to me like reflections of the some cover. Are they dome cams?

Hi @MikeADT:

Lesson which professionals here, as well as non-professional members following the advice of the professionals here know:

1) It is NOT the mounts.

2) DOME CAMERAS ARE PROBLEMATIC OUTDOORS.

What you are experiencing is issues with the dome cameras, really a professional should not be installing them for customers knowing they may perform as pictured.

Recommendation: Replace the camera for the customer with a decent turret model instead.

That’s funny I’ve been with ADT for 8 yrs and some cameras are the only cameras we install.
What are the reasons for not installing them and what are the advantages to turret cameras.

Hi @MikeADT

please see the cliff notes, we've covered this numerous times.

If ADT has been in the business of installing dome cameras for so long, they should have trained you better on this subject.

Seriously, I've only been learning in the last couple of years on this topic ( as a hobby not as a professional ) and it was very clear to me what your most likely issue was thanks to others who have been sharing their experiences here.

The driveway shot looks like water droplets or dirt on the lens or possibly refracted light hitting from a flood light. The yard shot looks like a fogged lens. Definitely ditch the dome cameras for turrets when you get a chance (HDW4231EM-AS should be the nearest match to your current specs). Domes are generally only useful indoors when you need to protect them against damage/vandalism and you'll still need to clean dust/film off them occasionally to prevent the IR LEDs from reflecting back onto the sensor.

Hi @MikeADT

A 2.8 varifocal?

What are you attempting to accomplish?
